AP poll: Whites help McCain to slim lead

An overwhelming advantage in experience and lopsided support from working-class and suburban whites have lifted Republican John McCain to a slender lead over Barack Obama less than two months from Election Day, a poll on the presidential race said Friday.

The Arizona senator has a 13-percentage-point lead over his Democratic rival both with men and senior citizens, and a 23-point advantage among rural residents, according to the Associated Press-GfK Poll of likely voters. He's also doing better than Obama at consolidating support from party loyalists: 94 percent of Republicans back McCain, while 83 percent of Democrats prefer the Illinois senator.

Suddenly, part of the world JUST came into focus for me.

Did you see Biden's tax return. BIG SPENDER. He and his wife GAVE a whole $380 to charity in 2005 & 2006 and all the way up to $995 in 2007. SHAMEFUL!

So, I looked at Obama's return. In 2000 - 2004, they never gave more than $3500 in any one year - about 1% of income. SHAMEFUL!

As their income soared on the book revenue, they ramped up giving to $77,315 in 2005 and $60,307 in 2006 - about 5% of income.

That is why the LIBs think we need to tax rich people. Republicans are VERY benevolent folks. We DON'T need policy to FORCE us to give. Apparently DEMs do. Biden - that is a SHAME.

For the past twenty years my wife and I have consistently given 10 - 12% in charitable contributions.

You are exactly right. racism still exists in this country. It is really sad. Voters would rather this country go for another 8 years like the last 8 because they won't vote for a black. This election has really brought the racism out in the open. I am a life long Republican. I only listened to Fox News. I had no idea how racist that station was. I had a lot of respect for Hannity. I had no idea what a racist he was. Also O'Reilly. It is one thing for a station to have political views but another to be flat out racist. I am really disappointed in Fox and after the election is over I will never listen to them again.

John

Can you give some examples of racism coming from Fox?

I hope you are not saying that just not supporting Obama is racist.

So what have you heard them say or do on Fox that was racist? I am sort of doubting you are going to come up with anything.

2 words: tax loopholes
That's why repugs give anything away, so they can decrease the amount of taxes they pay. BTW, Did you know if the rich make a bad investment, they can recoup their money over a few years from the IRS? Can you?

McCain did not really donate to charity anyway. His money went to the colleges his own children attend to secure their positions there despite, if their parents are any indication, their poor academic showing.

The McCains have a fortune exceeding 100 million dollars, mostly inherited..

The Obamas have made 3 to 4 million in sales of his book (which Barack Obama wrote himself). By McCain's own estimate, (they have less than $5 million) they are only lower middle class. With two young kids to care for and their future to secure, they can't spare much. Besides their work is helping people for NO PAY. They don't just give, the DO.

The Bidens have a total net worth (including their home) of 150 THOUSAND dollars. They took a mortgage out to put their kids through school! Not many politicians work in D.C. so long without getting rich from taxpayers and lobbyists.

The Obamas and Bidens released their entire tax records for at least this entire century.
The McCains only a couple of pages for 2006 and 2007. First his health records, now this
WHAT ARE THE MCCAINS HIDING? Too much money and too little good health?
John McCain, if it really is country first, go home and rest all week, not just all weekend, maybe then you'll get better, because your third bout with disease could be the last and you could leave and even dumber, more oblivious and less able whack-job than yourself in charge of our country's future when we're trying to emerge from the quagmire the other of your kind you're trying to succeed is leaving behind..

The rich give disproportionately less than any other class in America. This has been proven statistically time after time after time. There are always exceptions, but they are notable because they are exceptions. Don't lay it on little upper-middle class people like Obama to make up the difference because oil and farming and mining and manufacturing billionaires don't pay a dime in taxes or give bupkis to charity. That's definitely ignorant underclass thinking, going after each other because you can't really get a the big guys. Think logically for once.

I doubt very seriously that repubs give more to charity than democrats do. They dont like to pay taxes themselves, but dont mind if the poor middle class pay out every dime they make. Repubs say they cut taxes, but all my taxes on all my utility bills have gone up and the cost of all necessities have gone up...and it always happens that way. I am amazed that white people hate black people so much that they would vote in someone who is out to destroy social security. All repubs want to get rid of "entitlement" programs. That was the first thing Bush tackled when he came into office. That showed what his priorties were...and then started the Iraq war. Have you noticed that repubs must always have a war going on? Look to Georgia...the country on the border of Russia for the next confrontation. We trained and encouraged Georgia to attack another country on Russias border. So...Russia sent US a message by invading Georgia. We are deliberately provoking Russia...playing another war game. I am sick to death of hearing about "war". I want to hear other issues discussed...openly. What do the repubs have to hide that they must cover it all up with slander and false accusations? I like the openness of Barak Obama and he is ready to discuss REAL issues that concern ordinary hard working people. (even white people) and yes, I am white. I refuse to judge a man by the color of his skin. For people that all profess to believe in God and are saved, I am quite suprised by the amount of prejudice. I guess Obama's preacher had it right after all, sad to say. As for McCain, he is well past retirement age. His health should be a concern for all and we need change from what we have had.

To my friends on here, don't waste time arguing with these racist McBush lovers. They're just an example of what happens when people like Jesse Helms and Ann Coulter are allowed to breed. If the Republicans win the election, let them enjoy the coming wars and crusades.

The whole truth about the election comes down to this, If Obama wins we can return to sanity and clean up some of the mess of the last 8 years.

If McCain wins, just prepare for WAR. Nuf said.

John McCain - All- American F R A U D.

McCain has been trying to ride the 'war hero' routine for years. He thought if he stayed in the Hanoi Hilton longer than anyone else he would be welcomed back to America with a ticker tape parade. But America was tired about Vietnam and didn't feel he was a hero. He has been frustrated ever since. He thought America owed him for being a POW.

Now the ultimate hypocrisy, after saying "he would rather lose the election than lose the war", he has proven he would rather win the election than do what is correct for the country. He has chosen a completely un-qualified person to be the V.P. He chose her, not because of her qualifications, but because he thinks she will bring the 'women' vote. She has less experience than any other candidate in American history. Would you fell safe with her as the Prez, if McBush dies? This buffoon has shown his true colors, remember this is his first decision as a possible president.

But yet he claims Obama is inexperienced, what a sicko. Retire McBush to the farm, he is done.

If he were white, this would be over.

All that talent, all that charisma and all that intelligence. If he were white, McCain would be bucking for a cabinet post at best. "JFK" would escape the lips of Americans without hesitation. If, he were a white Christian male, just as attractive with just as much presence, saying exactly the same things and landing precisely where he does on every single issue, next. If he were white. We'd be all but finished here.

    Race in your face.

This sucks. The GOP is lying to you so hard, with such desperation. If you buy it, we are laughing at you. Like hyenas, we stare and point and you wonder if the monkey is you or them. Mia,

I fairly positive she would have won. Why? Because the vote was very close (even though she ran a bad campaign). If Obama had not carried the black vote by such a large amount and I don't think a white jr senator would have received that many black votes over a clinton.

Also, your comment about rich being able to recoup a bad investment. Anyone can. It is called a capital loss carryover if you don't use the loss in the year it happens.

No only the rich can recoup a capital loss...how many poor people would know about it or have the means for hiring an accountant or cpa??

FYI - Before Bill opened his mouth and stuck his foot in it...Hillary was receiving a majority of the black vote. Also, you act like his getting the black vote is a bad thing...all these years only white men have been able to run...I didn't hear anyone complaining about how they were receiving 95% of the white vote. Why shouldn't black people be proud of him??

Thanks for asking good question. My numbers are right off my tax form..

Here is what we have taught our children.

The first 10% of take-home goes to the Lord (or some other charity of your choice)
The second 10% of take-home goes to savings for retirement
Live on the remaining 80%. That has worked our entire life at a wide range of income levels. This will work for EVERYONE other than the poorest among us.

For the other posters that were so critical, I was not comparing Biden to McCain in terms of income and giving, I was comparing Biden to our household and lots of folks like us.

For all the LIB talk of compassion, there are not many crumbs coming off the Biden table.

Mia, you are wrong about only the rich recouping a capital loss. Someone does not have to go to a cpa or an accountant. How about going to places like H & R Block or Jackson Hewitt. They would know about it because it is in their software. Plus if they are poor or old AARP has tax preparers who would know about it.

Next, you prove my point about Hillary. If Obama was not black, Bill would never had made the statement in SC about Jackson. Thus Hillary would have continued to get a lot of black votes over a "white" jr senator. She would have won. I also am not saying his getting the black vote is a bad thing. But NO DEMOCRAT running for pres has received such a large percentage of the black vote. It is normally split among the 2 or 3 leading people.

        ABOUT SARAH PALIN

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she's like the most popular girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won't vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because she is a "babe".

It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents for seven months.

She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby. There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.

She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things out there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin's kind of job is highly sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything like that of native Alaskans.

Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

        She's smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative". During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn't even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once.

These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.

As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's surplus, borrow for needs.

She's not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren't generated by her or her staff. Ideas weren't evaluated on their merits, but on the basis of who proposed them.

While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.

Sarah complained about the "old boy's club" when she first ran for Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of "old boys". Palin fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of pressuring the State's top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla's Police Chief because he "intimidated" her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska's top cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear that an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn't fire her sister's ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew her support.

She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn't like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.

Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything publicly about her.

When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party) engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the "old boys' club" when she dramatically quit, exposing this man's ethics violations (for which he was fined).

As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the "bridge to nowhere" after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.

As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative action restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simply because she was not aware of their importance--but with the unobservant she had gained a reputation as "anti-pork".

She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a fiscal conservative.

Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah. They call her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her unbridled ambition and predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah's mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.

As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package of legislation known as "AGIA" that forced the oil companies to march to the beat of her drum.

Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to global warming. She campaigned "as a private citizen" against a state initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State's lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior's decision to list polar bears as threatened species.

McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a heartbeat away from being President.

There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more knowledgeable and experienced than she.

However, there's a lot of people who have underestimated her and are regretting it.

        WHY AM I WRITING THIS?

First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny + Alaska), you will find references to my participation in local government, education, and PTA/parent organizations.

Secondly, I've always operated in the belief that "Bad things happen when good people stay silent". Few people know as much as I do because few have gone to as many City Council meetings.

Third, I am just a housewife. I don't have a job she can bump me out of. I don't belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will cost me somehow in the future: that's life.

Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100 or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's attempt at censorship.

Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.

        CAVEATS

I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor) from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of Wasilla, and I can't recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible for a private person to get any info out of City Hall--they are swamped. So I can't verify my numbers.

You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the population of Wasilla, ranging from my "about 5,000", up to 9,000. The day Palin's selection was announced a city official told me that the current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was 5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to 2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90's.

I do not believe we will have another 8 years of anything if McCain/Palin are elected to govern!
September 11, happened just a few months after the Clinton's left office! Bush had to clean up the mess left , because Bill Clinton FAILED to act.

Stop acting like the Republicans are these war mongers, when in fact they have NEVER allowed another terrorist the opportunity to harm our precious people as they did September 11, 2001! Tell me do you tuck your children into bed each night, do they eat three meals a day, and do you all have heat in the winter and air condition in the summer? Do you look out your kitchen window and see men with weapons aiming at one another? This is because Bush,Thank God had the for site to take the war to them!
Why not spend your opinion-giving day looking up who owns the media outlets, starting with Newsweek, and the New york times, the Then check out Msnbc, and CBS. Our Country is being continuously fed lies about itself to make us lose hope. Wake up!

        phantom-396954,

Your point is still not proven because had her campaign been so strong she would not have been so easily usurped by a jr. senator no matter the color of his skin. Also, she did not pull out her SEXIST card until she began to lose. Yes their numbers were close...if you do not count the caucus states.

Go to poor areas and ask people if they go to AARP or H & R Block to have their taxes done, you may find that very few of them even know about such places. Plus the more complicated the tax return the greater the cost...

Before Bill opened his mouth and stuck his foot in it...Hillary was receiving a majority of the black vote.

Actually, blacks just didn't think Obama could win. Once Obama won Iowa, they started hastening to the Obama camp in large numbers.

But polls, particularly since Obama's win in the Iowa caucuses, indicate that black voters are breaking increasingly for the Illinois senator, a trend that bodes well for his candidacy if his campaign can get African-Americans to the ballot boxes.

In blacks, Obama seeks untapped well of support

A survey taken late last month for CBS found that nearly 40% of black voters in South Carolina believed the country was not "ready to elect a black president," compared with 34% of whites – a sentiment that Obama aides viewed as a far greater impediment to his election than flat-out racism among those who would never vote for him anyway.

The campaign has spent months trying to address these fears, using surrogates such as Obama's wife, Michelle.

For black skeptics, Obama cites Iowa

            Mia,

Over 50% of H & R Block's tax returns are either 1040EZ or 1040A (the 2 short forms). I think that if you would go to poor areas that you would find both Block and Jackson Hewitt stores there. Next, lots of poor people go to these 2 places to get the Earned Income Tax Credit which gives a refund of over $4,000 even though the person pays NO federal income tax. I can guarantee that most working poor with children (either married or single) know about EITC. Next, most poor would not have capital losses to write off anyway but IF they did they would be allowed to do it. Since a family of 4 (2 parents with 2 kids under 17) pay no federal income tax until they make over $40,000 then it is kind of a moot point. This tread started when you said that the rich could recoup losses on bad investment. I said everyone can. That is the truth and the tax law. You then went off on a tangent about how the poor are too stupid to know about it and too stupid to find the company that does more tax returns than any other company in the US or the number 2 company.

Why do you think that the poor are so dumb? Sounds like a bit of liberal snobbery.

Obviously Barack Obama has far more progressive ideas for the 21st Century than John Sidney McCain III.

Certainly Obama is more in touch with middle class American values than McCain who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth - similar to George W. Bush.

However, there is a large number of CLOSET RACISTS hidden among the Caucasian population in the USA, and Obama does have more than Caucasian blood flowing though his veins.

Will these Caucasian closet racists be able to get past the "color" thing , and realize that Obama is more like them than a blue blooded McCain?

No they won't and McCain will probably win. It is sad but one of the biggest organizations that is still preaching this hate and racism is our very churches that are holier than thou. Dr. Dobson, who I used to have a lot of respect for actually praying for it to rain on Obama's speech. Don't these religous people have any shame? I have become a agnostic because if there was a God up there he would send a lightning bolt down to hit these heathen christians that preach all of this hate.
Palin's church is a good example. Her church hates Jewish people. Don't hear much of that on the news but we hear all about Rev Wright on the news. What he said was true. We are a country of racists.

John-362157 - Of course you are going to turn to race - Obama's entire career is on built on race baiting - from his start in "community organizing" - which we still don't konw what that entailed other than it was for the good of the community. REv Wright for 20 yers, and the primaries was an excercise in racial politics that will be studied for years. Bottom line - We are all concerned about HOW that plays into Obama's "change." and Maybe simplifying everything to racism isn't doing you or our cause any good. Its probably more complicated than you can comprehend.

Wow Brenda, are you sure that all black women are voting for Obama? I could have sworn I saw like 10 black people at the RNC and at least 4 of them were black women, LOL!!!
But on the serious side, your comment "ask them why they are voting for obama, any of them, and they will NOT be able to discuss anything that obama says he wants to do for this country. they havent got a clue. i have to laugh everytime i hear rthem talk amongst themselves but loud enough for me to hear and im talking about black women in governement jobs!"

is hilarious, I can't speak for them, but I knew about Barack before he decided to run for President. I wrote two papers on him for my undergraduate degree that talked about his life and how I was inspired by him and his education, thoughtfulness when it came to making a difference in the community and his desire for public service over his own personal gain.

I am an informed voter and I listen to both sides and weigh/research their points to see if it makes sense. So far, this campaign has been frought with so much mudslinging - mainly from the Right that its pretty hard to see where McCain't is coming from. A long time ago, I would have considered voting for McCain - back when he really was a Maverick and Moderate, now with his cycling back on his principles in order to ignite his party - such as with his choice of a distraction for his running mate, I am sorry but I just can't afford to make that choice not after the last 8 years and how much is at stake.

Granted, whomever get's into the Oval Office will have plenty of advisors to help them through some decisions. But I am sorry, I would like the POTUS to be intelligent enough to sift through the information and humble enough - as Barack has been, to admit when something they initally opposed turned out not to be the best idea.

This current administration has done none of the above...they refuse to own up to mistakes, avoid court supboena's to testify for their mistakes (Rove) and go about like business is usual. I am sorry, I cannot afford 4 more years of this foolishness. Meanwhile the gap between the have's and have not's grows bigger by the day.

We as American's can be very, very selfish when it get's right down to the nitty gritty. I have watched people on this board go back and forth about 95% of blacks voting for Barack as clearly being racist...my question is, looking at history and who primarily dominates this country and its purse strings, and with the recent poll information that shows majority of whites voting McCain/Palin...who is really racist now then? More than who is racist, who is paranoid that their own selfish hatred toward any person of color just might come back to bite them if they vote a Black man in to the Big House...as the saying goes, "As a man thinketh..."

And by the way, don't miss this comment, black people have been voting Democrat for a long, long time - and the last time I checked our last person voted in was not black (Bill Clinton).

Maybe these people you are quick to call racists just like Mccain-Palin better than they like Obama for reasons other than what you would term "racist". Maybe they think this is the best ticket to lead the country. Maybe they like their overall philosophy and their leadership style. Maybe they have formed their own opinions of the situation. Why does a decision to not support Obama-Biden mean that the voter is now a racist?

                  Hi Equalizr,

It does not automatically qualify anybody as a racist just because they do not support a candidate who happens to be an opposite color. In fact, as much as anybody tries to deny, psychologically speaking people tend to gravitate to those to share certain qualities that they find within themselves. People also tend to feel more comfortable with people who share the same appearance (and culture) as themselves because upon first deduction, they automatically assume that the person identifies with their struggles.

In pscyhology, it is called "sterotyping" which is not bad - initially as it is the way that all humans begin to take in information about people and things around them. It becomes ignorant when after the stereotype has been proven wrong, the person refuses to self-evaluate their initial reaction to the subject thereby using reason and logic.

Too often, we in this country, live and die by stereotypes and will not apply reasoning and logic to our decisions. It is this that keeps us divided in the end. Most everybody in this country wants a prosperous, if not comfortable life for their children and themselves. Most all of us in this country believe in working hard for what we receive and do not want our hard earned wages taken away for wasteful spending reasons, most all of us want to hold ourselves and our children in moral esteem and want the best for our society.

However, we are so mobilized by appearances, we get distracted by the real issues at hand. I am sorry but I find the McCain/Palin ticket to be very scary. After watching ad after ad of blatant slander come from their camp, watching the RNC where they lied to the American people saying that the other party wants to raise our taxes (ALL OF US) for the heck of it and want more control and seeing how their faulty trickle-down economics has failed over the past 8 years, I cannot afford to make the mistake of given them another chance.

Even if you look at this premise alone, they had 8 years to get it right and they didn't dude. No, everything Bush did was not all wrong, but the glaring mistakes are burnt in my memory and far outweigh the benefits at this point. So far, McCain has not told me yet what he will do that is different. I don't care if I made 350K per year, if they took 35% of my salary in taxes versus 30% but my neighbor down the street didn't lose their home, it would be worth it!

All the Obama supporters are trying to get reasonable, thinking people to see, is that you should not be fooled by appearances. You may think that just because the McCain/Palin ticket resembles your color, creed or culture, that they have your best interest at heart. Do not be fooled, for if you are the working middle class, I hate to break the bad news to you but in the carefully deducted opinion of most who have been watching, the McCain/Palin ticket does not and will not put you first...regardless of your race/heritage.

Here it is. Most Republicans are white and religious. Anyone can say it is not so but all we have to do is look at the RNC. Now with that said most of these people will do more than say they will vote that is they will actually vote. Some minorities do not think they will make a difference or have been oppressed so long they do not think they have a say. One of my Republican friends said "All Democrats are poor, a day away from jail, or uneducated." I looked at him and said I was now a Democrat. His salary five figures does not really come up to my six but he got the idea. Times are changing. People are going to come out to vote because they are tired of being sold lemons based on prolife and antigay stance which won Bush his election. White religious voters actually thought Bush would follow through on his pitch and complained a month later as he did NOTHING. Yes you all remember and if you do not get a TV. The Repubs who want quotes or citations here need to open their eyes and ears it is everywhere. Mccain voted for prochoice: stem cell research. Voted against VA and troop support. Earmarks are his middle name. It is all out there on the internet and it will lead to Obama's win.

At least he didn't steal it...just shows what type of person McCain is...can't come up with a campaign slogan...steal the other guys even if there is no logical basis for McCain to use it. He should really adopt "McCain 4 more years of the same...and worse" because that is what his campaign is all about. I watched Ms Sarah's first national interview...more painful to watch than the RNC LIES - oops, I meant convention. Not only does she not know anything, most of what she said is diametrically opposed to his "maverick" self-portrait.

I thought Hillary's campaign had been badly run until I saw McCain's...I guess that's what happens when you pull a vp out of your a--hole.

                    Mia,

First, I am not a McCain supporter. However, if his campaign is being run so poorly then why is he ahead in most of the polls? The fact is that with the near total dislike of President Bush and the shape of the economy (as reported in the press) Obama should be up double digits. This should be a slam dunk victory for the Dems this year. I do not know who will win but it will be a very close election like the last 2.

I have been researching on my own. McCain is only up with White Male voters. The article is misleading because it doesn't cover the complete Demographic. Obama does have a 2 to 1 lead on the economic issues. He has a 3 to 1 lead with newly registered voters.

                      Tony,

Overall, most polls show that McCain is ahead of Obama. It does not matter how it is broken up. The bottom line is that right now (and it will change) McCain is leading just like before the 2 conventions Obama was leading. Actually McCain is up with both white males and white females. But all of this means nothing. It is just for the news people to have something to write about. There is only 1 poll that matters and that will happen in Nov. Who will win? I don't know but I do think it will be very close.

That is false about McCain being ahead. Right now it is close there is even an article in NewsWeek that says there tied at 46% each. The media that says McCain is ahead is only reporting Targeted Polls. Take VA if Hampton votes Dem and Richmond votes REP they report only the Richmond results. This way they can't be caught in a lie but they misrepresent the facts by living out information.

Tony, here are the recent poll results.

Gallup, Rasmussen, Fox, AP, ABC, USA Today and CBS all have McCain up.

Hotline and NBC have Obama up.

Newsweek and NBC show a tie.

Of the 11 polls 4 use Likely voters and 7 use registered voters. All 4 of the LV pools show McCain up.

Thus, 7 polls for McCain, 2 for Obama and 2 ties.

That was my point. Depending on who's poll your looking at you get different results. The race is very close and the poll results can be fixed to say what you want them to. Did Hotline and NBC hire the same company to conduct the polls? What determines a Likely Voter? Do you no anyone that was a part of these polls because I sure didn't get asked?

I have been registered as and IDEP for 22 years. Served my Country and was injured doing so. During that time I followed the Lawful Orders of my Commanders but was taught not to do so blindly. If 1 poll shows McCain up and the other shows Obama is up then they both can't be right unless they are using targeting to report only what they want you to know. We can't say they lied but there not showing the full picture either.

Actually I got called once this year. Didn't help either since I told them I wasn't going to vote for either. I did, however, tell them that I would vote since I have always voted. Thus I would guess that I would fall into the LV pile.

It could be that 95% of black voters are smart enough to know a great presidential candidate when they see one. Of course heaven forbid anyone should give black folks credit for being smart now huh? Everyone knows they're ignorant, right?

The fact is that as sad as it is there are still some people in America who, as much as they agree with him, can not bring themselves to vote for a black man.

Europeans are by far MORE racist than Americans. To claim otherwise is to lie.

Europeans may be far more liberal minded regarding drugs and sex, but when it comes to race, they are far more racist.

lottapaws you are wrong. Judging people by the color of their skin is mostly an American thing. Other country are racist based on religion, politics, economic standing, or because the person is from another country...but not color.

Obama is an American from a middle-class christian family. 95% of the country should see him as one of them.

When my friend's son was in 1st grade he came home and told his mom that there were only three other "white" kids in his class. The joke was that one of the kids was black, but because he spoke English he was "considered white".

It's just a tax return. Charitable donations deduct from your gross to lower your taxes. Did it ever occur to anyone that they just don't ask for receipts for every donation and charitable contribution?

Biden had to take out a second mortgage on his home to put his kids through college. Obama has two little kids to care for. Quit giving me the "I'm not voting for them because they are not holier than thou" crap. Cindy McCain spent more on her wardrobe for the GOP convention that Biden and his wife made in a year.

Have you seen Cindy McCain's tax returns? No one has, she refuses to release them. Have you seen Palin's tax returns??

The Obama's made over $350,000 in 2004. I looked at our tax returns just for the heck of it. My husband and I had a combined income that year of $161,000.

The Obama's claimed $3,500 in charitable contributions.

We claimed $10,400. It would have been more, had we gotten a reciept everytime.

Obama is supposed to be a caring, giving "worry about the working class" liberal.
I am supposed to be an evil, cold hearted, uncaring, conservative.

                                Whats wrong with this picture?

Since when has it been so important how much other people give to charity? That's just grasping at straws. If you don't want to vote for Obama/Biden, don't make flimsy excuses and expect others to believe them. I bet if those two, Mc/Pal won, you'd be the first to complain about their toll on your economic well-being.

This country needs to change and give up the ghosts of its racist, hate and bigotry filled history. This is the best time, because is not a black candidate against a white candidate. It's not even the contest between extraordinarily gifted, intelligent, capable candidate with many good ideas on how to bring our country back to great heights of accomplishments, against one who has no real stake in the future no real platform and no understanding of the lives of ordinary Americans. It's how this country needs to grow up and realize that it isn't about the candidates, it's about us and what this country needs.

                                Mia,
Everyone has an opinion, and you're entitled to yours. But when you call everyone whose not voting for Obama a "racist", I take offense. I'm not voting for Obama because I don't agree with his viewpoints whether they be his social, economic or foreign policy viewpoints. I don't care if he's black, white or green.

As I said in another post, I fail to see how Obama is about 'change'. He's voted with the Democrats 97% of the time and his running mate is a 37 year veteran of the Washington establishment. That's not change.

All of us are going to vote based on what we feel is best for our family, society and country. I am far better off now than I was under Clinton, my taxes are lower, I feel more secure than I did when Clinton was bombing aspirin factories and my kids education has been stepped up a notch.

I am just trying to sort out the truth from the BULL.

If Obama and Biden (and many on this board) preach compassion and the needs of many in this world and do not act consistently by giving unselfishly, then I have to call what they are saying about needs and THEIR compassion is pure BULL.

I have never seen so many LIBs scrambling to argue why someone making $250,000 per year would be tight on funds. That was funny.

If as one post suggests, "they didn't keep their receipts", then they are poor managers and don't deserve our vote.

I made a lot less than Biden and gave more than him. I also had 2 kids in college and my wife did not have a job like his. I just guess I must care more for people and manage money better.

When you are out there doing stuff to help others...and not just writing checks, you are kinda excused from giving as much. Also, you cannot write off services provided.

Plus, I noticed that over 80% of McCain's charitable contributions went to the "John and Cindy McCain Family Foundation". Just out of curiosity I looked up the foundation tax return - looks like between them they contributed roughly $176,000 in 2007 of which they then donated $78,250. But considering that John's total income came to $405,000 and Cindy's was over $6million (I guess she must be upper middle class) their contributions came to less than 3% of their total income. Doesn't seem so 'charitable' now does it.

Please note that since Cindy has not yet released her 2007 tax return I am using her numbers from 2006.

Obama is nothing but a true socialist. If anyone can really do the math what Obama wants to spend on programs and what tax relief he is supposidly promosing, 2+2 does not equal 4. One can't give tax breaks to 40% of the country who don't pay taxes anyway. Some politician for Obama tried to call racisim on the McCain campaign, I expected this. Obama fells threatned by the surge in the poll numbers and want to play the race card.

He has defined about $10 in spending for each $1 in revenue he has defined.

That is why 50% of those polled believe Obama means higher taxes.

                                  Again, propaganda!!!!

                                  In my socialist country:
Health care for all, this is why we have a healthy nation
People work less but are more productive than americans
We get minimum 4 weeks paid vacation so we have a better quality of life then most americans
We have good roads, good infrastructures when your bridges are unsafe and collapsing
                                  Every one will get retirement.
We have good social programs for new mothers
Good education for all, every body has to learn 2 languages... How many languages do you speak???

So tell me what is wrong with that??? Oh I know, your argument will be, but you pay more taxes!!! We may pay more taxes, but it is worse it!! What you don't understand is that our taxes come back to us when yours do not !!! Your taxes are going to the military and what does that give you in your personal lives? NOTHING!! Time to stop the paranoia.. it has been going on too long!

There is no perfect systems, but a government has the moral and ethical obligation to do its best for the citizens, or why have a government?

Please stop bashing socialist countries! Socialist countries like norway, sweeden, denmark, the netherlands are where people have the best quality of life and are the happiest!!

Do I have to remind you of all the misery in this country?? You are all brainwashed in believing this is the greatest country in the world where any thing can happen. IT IS NOT!!

Just to give you an example: I have a relative who finished school at the age of 14. He is now one of he director at a very well respected journal and make over 12 000 dollars / month! So just to prove to you that if you work hard and do your job well, you can make it to the top anywhere, not only in this country!

Brainwashing is alive and well even in this capitalistic country!! By the way, where all this capitalism taking you?? no where, just down the drain!!

You cannot have a healthy society without healthy people.

Taxes are what pay for our schools, police, fire department, and infrastructure. The GOP have used the "liberals are going to raise your taxes" BS for decades and instead of having a rational thought you run off the cliff like goats.

And the real joke is that when the GOP talks about "lowering your taxes" they're not talking about YOUR taxes, they're talking about their own.

All you people can do is claim that Obama is playing the race card while they cry that the media is being so unfair to their poor little girl Palin. I will vote for that ticket when she is willing to answer question on Meet the Press and shows by HER answers and some textbook dialogue they gave her that she is ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. I can't believe people would vote for that ticket instead of for someone who would help turn this country around after 8 years of a failed economy.

I agree @ LU, I can't understand why people complain so much about the taxes except we don't see the benefits from them. They are needed to improve our infrastructure etc. and unfortunately, while Bush was sending us 600.00 tax credits so that some idiots could go out and buy flat screen tv's, most "rational" thinkers were saying, gee, were already Trillions of dollars in debt...who is going to pay for that someday and what pool of money did this rebate come from? And why did that bridge collapse? And when is it going to be us?

Granted, I don't like people garnishing my hard earned money to pay for people who abuse our social system - this is where reform needs to be inserted. But I am level minded enough to know that everyone was not dealt the same hand and that god does not smile on my grumblings when I have not lost my home, I have a decent car and I can put food on the table for my daughter. So I give to those who are less fortunate because the bible told me so!

First of all Proud, it was a statement - I do not claim a faith because I think that the decision on which of them is right - beyond the normal common denominators (10 commandments) is too hard to perform. Or as in the words of Obama, "above my paygrade."

But I do believe that there is a god and that he wants us to be good to each other. Whatever you believe in, your certainly entitled to, that is one of the beautiful things about this country that some in the Far-Right would like to take away...our ability to think and make our own judgement for our beliefs.

But its not a good idea to insult people's holy books as "fairytales" trust that I know plenty of people who believe the same...but, even if it were true, the offensiveness is not worth the remark. Just sayin dude...

                                      Proud Liberal,

to answer some of your questions.
I have lived in Europe and speak 2 languages. We have retirement here, ever hear of social security? Our unemployment is lower than France's. Our GDP is larger than ANY other country. We are the only super power. France is free and semi socialist because we saved your A** in both WW1 and WW 2. Remember WW 2 where you got your tails kicked in record time? Our taxes go mostly to social programs and our spending on the military is s very small percentage of our very large GDP. Also, I believe that socialist France just elected a conservative to straigthen things out. I also have a relative who makes over $12,000 a month. There main difference is that my relative is RETIRED!
Finally, we are the greatest country in the world which is why the rest of the world looks to us to lead.

Oh, the other language I speak is German. I chose that one because I wanted to speak a language from a country in Europe that normally wins (except against us of course lol)

Funny, dems are saying Palin has Zero experience and could become pres if McCain dies. Yet we know if Obama is elected he has less experience than she does, and he will actually be the president, no speculation or what if's about it. Palin may not be everyhtin I want as far as her some of her more far right positions, and I liked Leiberman. But, she ran an entire state, has an 80% approval rating from her constituents, and is pro offshore drilling and against tax increases on the struggling middle class, who now pay almost forty percent of all income the governments locally and federally.

70% of the polled said they believe Paling has more experience than Obama... must be the very same 72% sheep that have consistently made all the wrong decisions for the past 8 years and have destroyed this country at every level by becoming one with the liars and supporting them consistently. I do not believe one bit of the numbers represented on this article. They do not balance in themselves and go against every poll I have followed. Obama will win this election by a large margin despite what the liars try to make us believe. I am a registered republican and a white Caucasian male. I would have voted for Hillary and I certainly will vote for Obama. This country does need change and change on a grand level if it is going to recover and thrive. McCain has proven not only that he backs the Bush policies but along with the Bush administration that he disregards not only what the country thinks and wants but also what the world in itself thinks. I do not ever want another president sitting in fron tof the United Nations counsel belittling them and making the statements that either you are with us or against us. That was so destructive.

I agree. The country needs a change.
Obama has been running an ad stating that McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. But Obama's own voting record shows he voted with Democrats 97% of the time.
                                      How is that change?

McCain has picked a running mate that has challenged her own party, taken on Big Oil in a state that relies on oil revenues, and has decresed the spending in her state.

Obama picked a running mate that is a 37 year permanent fixture in the Washington establishment.

Don't you know that democrats are more progressive than republicans.. Just that, means change!
Of course, Obama/Biden record is way better than MC cain/ Palin.... Do you want your kids to go to war?? then vote MC cain.
Do you want Peace and prosperity, then vote Obama/Biden, it is that simple.
I like to remind you all... Palin is a war monger... she already talking about attacking russia... Do you think you are the only ones with nuclear weapons and no one can touch you?? You are dead wrong!! If you keep pushing other countries buttons, they may be the ones who will push on the red button. So it is your choice, people.

"Obama has voted with the Democrats 97% of the time". Did it ever occur to you that the Democrats haven't pushed through any legislation that is detrimental to our Country?? It's not the Democrats' policies that have driven this country into the ground.

I would be more concerned if Obama had voted with Bush 97% of the time.

Get a grip, Proud. Palin didn't say we should go to war with Russia. She said that if Georgia were admitted to NATO we would have an obligation to support them if there were a war between Georgia and Russia. That is an accurate statement.

Would suggest you broaden your resources and stop getting all of your information from just the far left liberal blogs.

It doesn't really matter what she said. It matters that she herself doesn't understand it.

We already had 8 years with a bobble head in the WH. Why four more? Haven't our soldiers and their families suffered enough? Hasn't the economy suffered enough? We don't have the armed forces for more wars, draft, anyone? End of reproductive rights for women, that is, no more Roe v. Wade, morning after pill, and new policies: victims having to pay for their own rape kits, an anti-choice Supreme Corrupt.

But most appalling, the profiteering lobbyist who have run the country into the ground these last eight years and now run the McCain campaign, will still be in charge.

He's a United States Senator, not a State Senator. That is a federal post. A State Senator is a Senator that represents a part of his or her state in their state legislature. A United States Senator represents their state at the federal level.

You're right. US Senator. One who has been campaigning for President the majority of his time in office. One who claims 'change' yet keeps moving more and more to the middle, the lower his poll numbers go. One who selected a 37 year veteran of the Washington establishment as a running mate. One who voted party lines 97% of the time. One who is currently begging his constituents for money.

You are absolutely correct. That's exactly what he is.

Pat see this is why the term "uninformed voters" exists. Obama probably did vote with Democrats 97% of the time. The Change argument isn't in the party it's in the issues. THE ISSUES!!!

If the Republicans are for torturing people, I would not want to Obama to vote for it because it's change... that's just dumb. That's just change for the hell of it and that's not what Obama is talking about.

Don't sit up there and spew this crap like you aren't voting for Obama cause he's not for change. That's not the reason...... face it you like low taxes so our bridges fall down killing hundreds... you like levees failing and thousands of people dying. You like it when we torture people, yet turn around and go to church the next day and ask for forgiveness. You like it when we invade countries that didn't attack us, and kill all of their women, children and families and then call it "bringing democracy to the middle east". You like it when banks get bailed out left right and center yet look down on the families that have lost their home to the same people receiving our tax dollars...

Face it you aren't voting for Obama because you just don't care about other people. To you this is a football game.

It is refreshing to see a GOP fan admit that they are wrong. The truth is I respect that more then just about anything. Anyone who is incapable of admitting when they are wrong is not worth talking to.

Still the snide remarks belie your sincerity. Classic GOP.

What did I say that was 'snide'? I stated facts. Obama IS moving more to the middle on the issue the shakier his campaign gets. He DID select a 37 year veteran of the Washington establishment as a running mate. He HAS been running for POTUS most of his time in office. He IS begging his constituents for money and he DID vote along party lines 97% of the time.

Lets say we are going to take on the whole world. If I voted for a President that wanted to do that I would at least expect him to support the military. McCain claims he supports the military. You tell me why he votes against the veterans and military everytime there is a vote in the senate.

I am sad that it took so long to discover that everything i had been taught was WRONG! I am switching to Democrat, not to ease my conscience but quite frankly the McCain/Palin ticket scares the hell out of me. It is time we stop and think about the future of america.

Plus they do nothing but lie. Today her administration is trying to stop her husband from being subpeoned in her trooper case. If she has nothing to hide, why is she trying to stop him from testifying? More lies and deceit. During the Repubican convention Bush and McCain were so concerned about the hurricaine. They made a big show. Yet tonight a worse storm is hitting Galveston, and where are they? I guess they are looking for weapons of mass destruction or all the jobs Bush lost or the homes that were forced into foreclosure. I will never vote Republican again.

McCain and Palin act like there is no consequences to waging wars with other countries. I feel that the "Defense" department should be just that: defense, not offense.

I understood going into Afghanistan, everyone understood that. But invading Iraq was wrong. And when a country is wrong it will not be the "winners". No matter how you spin it, or how many times you say "we winning" and "the surge is working", the rest of the world looks at us like we're sick freaks with nucs, which we are.

                                        Carl,
Go to factcheck.org. You'll get some info on the 'librarygate' issue that you mentioned. The widely circulated so called 'list of books' that Palin tried to ban include the first 4 Harry Potter books. Newsflash....those books weren't even published at the time this incident supposedly happened.

People are freaking out that McCain/Palin are leading in the polls. Yet it's Obama's own party that are destroying him with their baseless claims.

                                        US Freedom

DID YOU KNOW THAT BARACK OBAMA'S CORE VALUES AND BELIEFS ARE BASED ON BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY?
I can guarantee you Obama Inc. surely isn't marketing this aspect of Barack's life!
As you all know. Barack's biological father, a socialist muslim from whom Barack got his name? Abandoned young Barack. This, obviously, was a scarring incident. And throughout young Barack's youth he was always in search of a father-figure to fill the void. And it was twenty one years ago when Barack did indeed find that father figure - the most influential and pivotal man in young Barack's life - Black Liberation Theologist Reverend Jeremiah Wright.
Has Obama Inc. told you about this man? I don't think so. This is stuff they desperately don't want you to know.
Black Liberation Theologist Jeremiah Wright would become, for twenty years, young Barack's mentor, inspiration, father, and inspiration for Barack's political career. The Junior Senator has written a lot about Wright in his memoirs and it's a public record.
If you don't know what Black Liberation Theology is? And if you don't know who Jeremiah Wright is? This will give you a taste. The video was produced by Jeremiah Wright himself and was on sale at Trinity United Church of Christ. Because of the election? I don't think they're selling these DVDs any more. Obama Inc. is a little smarter than that. Yes. Black Liberation Theology is predicated on the fact that Jesus Christ was a black man struggling against white oppression, as well as other outlandish, very often militant, views:

                                        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUbUBTlmAiA&feature=related
The Junior Senator? Has denied knowledge of any such sermons. Despite being a Jeremiah Wright disciple for twenty-one years. Despite being married at Trinity United. Despite having his kids baptized there. Despite going to church there. Despite the fact that Trinity United is Barack Hussein's primary church. Despite the fact that DVD's of these sermons can be purchased at Trinity United. Despite the fact that the whole point of Trinity United Church of Christ's whole point is to spread Black Liberation Theology and that's why you'd go there. Despite going to Church there for twenty years. And? Despite being close friends with Jeremiah Wright for twenty years. Barack Obama had absolutly no knowledge of the nature of the church he went to for twenty years nor any knowledge of the true nature of his twenty-year adopted father, Black Liberation Theologist Jeremiah Wright.

I do not care about "harry potter", it is the principle. She fired a librarian because she would not agree to remove ANY books. What is Palin afraid of, ideas that don't mirror her own. She fired the cheif and top state cop w/o considering who was the best for the job of keeping her citizens safe, just whose views mirrorred hers.

Gee US Freedom, that's a pretty racist blog you've written there. What are you afraid of? That black people will take over and treat you the way that you've treated them.

I'm white and I've also studied black history and culture...I've also studies Mexican history and culture, Indian history and culture...even Nazi history and culture.

America is currently most like Nazi history and culture. I used to wonder how the German people could allow the Nazi's to destroy their country..but after what has happened to our country I don't wonder about that any more.

                                        Carl,
(sigh.....) since you're too lazy to get the real story on the Library issue, I guess you need a mean ol conservative to educate you. I apologize in advance as I know the truth will not fit with your comfy, little views, however imbedded in a fantasy world they may be.

                                        Summary
We've been flooded for the past few days with queries about dubious Internet postings and mass e-mail messages making claims about McCain's running mate, Gov. Palin. We find that many are completely false, or misleading.

Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn't cut it at all. In fact, she increased funding and signed a bill that will triple per-pupil funding over three years for special needs students with high-cost requirements.
She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.

She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She's been registered as a Republican since May 1982.

Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a "courtesy" when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.

Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools. She has said that students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evolution question, but she also said creationism "doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."

As a moderate republican let me explain to you the conservative: I know she didn't ban any books and she asked a hypothetical of the librarian. She was testing her loyalty, the librarian failed and lost her job. It is the principle that you would ever consider getting rid of books and opposing views whatever they may be I know she wasn't AIP but her husband was, I don't care about Buchanan, I don't care if they do teach creationism ( iI have no problem allowing someone to have their view, remember the 1st amendment). And what I also find funny is how thin skinned conservatives are: All these internet rumors have flown about democratic canidates, and you repeat it as fact. The mud flies the other way and you decry the internet and the "biased" media as if Fox news isn't biased.

Those are just about the false crap floating about on the Internet. She did ask the librarian about banning some books the fired her and she was rehired after the town went into an uproar They are trying to cover it up by saying it was a hypothetical question LOL. Pot your email and I will forward all of the derogatory emails I receive about Obama from people. It will fill your mail box. Some are really weird. What people forget is in this information age it is easy to dispute anything in a new York minute on the web. Then again I never believed Obama was an alien in the first place.

Show me one instance where I've decried the internet and the bias of the media or stated FOX news was my sole source. Let's not get into a 'lumping everyone into one group' tiff. Shall we?

It wasn't just the Librarian that was fired. It was multiple city leaders and it was all with regard to her city policies.

I noticed you conveniently left out the fact that ALL of these people...including the librarian were reinstated the very next day. Based on that, I suppose I could lump you in with all of the anti-Palin whack-jobs that distort the truth to promote their own agenda? Or would that be the wrong thing for me to do, carl?

They'd rather see a washed up old man who lies and flip-flops about EVERYTHING than to believe that maybe, just maybe we can get away from partisan fighting and become one nation again. That will NEVER happen under McCain. It just might under Obama.

No no no. Whites in general are not Racists. I have had three businesses and all were successful. I am an older man in his 70s with enough money that my kids if they wanted would not have to work if they so chose. I have found one problem with whites and that is they tolerate racism more than they should out of fear. A guy walks up to the cooler tells a racist joke and most of them laugh. To say the ones that did are racists is incorrect. Its like when a black man does the same thing and the blacks in attendance laugh the same is true. You could go on and expand this to include Polish, Jewish, Italian, Latino and all the rest. The problem in America is toleration. This country was founded on the principle of all men are equal. We opened our arms to the world. In Germany Germans live France the same. Here we are a mixture of many races creeds and colors. The only way we can say we are successful is for all of us to coexist as one. To tolerate discrimination is unamerican in my book because if you do you are violating the very tenants this nation was built upon.

Take it from a wise old white man you need to think about what I said here. A long time ago I too was the guy telling the jokes at the water fountain. After my first business venture I learned different. It helped me in my business ventures and certainly in my personal life.

Don't think we have let enough of our soldiers die for who-knows-what? Really- what the hell are they dying for? Don't think we've killed enough Iraqi children yet? Not enough Americans without healthcare? Schools not quite dysfunctional enough for you? Returning soldiers still getting too much care? Really itching to get those women back to the "back-alley" coat hanger abortions? Haven't had enough Republican sleazy sex scandals? Lovin' those oil companies and just aching to put more profits in thier pockets? Or are you just anxious to have a scandal-ridden, less than 2 years governor of a state with a miniscule population, who was voted into her previous mayorship with a whopping 651 votes a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world? What is it, Republicans?

Bush and friends have brought us to our knees. Can racism really be so deep that rather than elect a brown-skinned man with integrity and vision, we would rather vote in more of the far right extremists who will take us all the way down? Do you people have a death wish?!!

I am not miserable, better off now than when Clinton left. Remember, the idiot of Iraq wouldn't let UN inspectors in for years and he attack his own kind, Kuwait. Can't you see something had to be done or would you have rather we waited until he supplied some type of weapons to attack us. Forgot did you? Clinton's cigar scandal. "I did not have sex with that woman." Our oil companies do not hold a candle in terms of proven supplies compared to other countries. Why do you think Obama is full of integrity and vision. Just because he said so. Please.....give us some useful information. I could go on and rebutt all your comments, but why even try. You just hate Bush and thats fine. But please be realistic in your ranting. You know I said before in other post---I throughly disliked Clinton, still do, always will including his wife. But I still respected him as a President.

I would requiere of all media to tell the truth, or they are out of business!

It would have been pretty tough for Saddam to supply weapons that HE DID NOT HAVE! And if that is truly a concern why not go after those WHO ACTUALLY ATTACKED THE USA? Why divert from Afghanistan? Why allow the other 2 nations in the "axis of evil" to get off scott free. North Korea has developed a nuke bomb since 9-11, Iran continues work unabated on their nukes and missles. Both of those nations were helped by our "ally" Pakistan, you know that nation where we think Bin Laden is and we know harbors the Taliban, that nation McCain won't allow US military to operate in, the one Charles Gibson asked Palin about and she " hemmed and hawed" her way through the non answer answer. And remind yourselves what Obama said last year about actionable intel inside Pakistan. So don't presume that a republican is better equipped to protect America just because the say they are.

CGCal: Hussain was put into power with the help of the CIA, which was ran by Bush 41 at the time. He was our buddy for years. All of his terrible deeds were done while he was our buddy and we overlooked them. Iraq was also the most progressive Nation in the Middle East. It's the only nation that allows it's woman to have higher education and wear what they want. And frankly, there is very little justification for one country to invade another country; especially when the other country is half a world away. The UN was in Iraq when WE threw them out so that we could invade the country - for no reason. And what was the Bush administration's reply when we found out that we had been lied to? "You believed it". And in a way, they were right. We fell for their stupid lies.

You're better off now than you were during the Clinton era? What do you do for a living? Lobby for the Oil companies? And the fact that you are better off does not excuse the massive debt that the country is experiencing.

And for the record: The GOP lost all rights to criticize Clinton when they allowed McCain to pick his VP based on how much he liked looking at her back side.

Here are a few little facts for the blindly led Obama supporters out there. 1.) Selma got me born...
NOT EXACTLY: your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965.
(Google 'Obama Selma' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.) 2.) My Father Was A Goat Herder . . NOT EXACTLY: he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government. 3.) My Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter . . . NOT EXACTLY: he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had. 4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom . . . NOT EXACTLY: your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya. It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check out the following link for verification of that and for more. Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia Muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers burned Christians' homes as well as men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took refuge. Obama supported his cousin before the election process here started. (Google 'Obama and Odinga') 5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian . . .
NOT EXACTLY: she does her daily Salat prayers at 5 AM according to her own interviews. Christianity would not have supported her being one of 14 wives to 1 man. 6.) My Name is African Swahili . . .
NOT EXACTLY: your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came) means 'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.
Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side, and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side.
While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya, his father's family were mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate states he's Arab, not African Negro). From....and for more....go to..... 7.) I Never Practiced Islam . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years -- until you changed the year before running for public office.
4-3-08 Article 'Obama was 'quite religious in Islam'' 8.) My School In Indonesia Was Christian . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book). February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the New York Times a year ago: 'Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as 'one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.' This is just one example of what Pamela is talking about when she says 'Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.' 9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian . . .
NOT EXACTLY: not one former teacher says you could speak the language. 10.) Because I lived In Indonesia, I have more foreign experience . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were there from the ages of 6 to 10, and could not speak the language. 11.) I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs . . .
NOT EXACTLY: except for Africa and the Middle East, you have never been anywhere else on the planet and have NO experience with our closest allies. 12.) I Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic Confusion . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were quite content in high school to be Barry Obama, no mention of Kenya and no mention of struggle to identify. Your classmates said you were just fine. 13.) An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office . . .
NOT EXACTLY: Ebony has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist. 14.) A Life Magazine Article Changed My Outlook On Life . NOT EXACTLY: Life has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist. 15.) I Won't Run On A National Ticket In '08 . . .
NOT EXACTLY: here you are, despite saying live on TV that you would not have enough experience by then -- and you are all about 'having experience first '. 16.) Voting 'Present' is Common In Illinois Senate . . .
NOT EXACTLY: common for YOU, but not many others have 130 NO VOTES. 17.) I Was A Professor Of Law . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE. 18.) I Was A Constitutional Lawyer . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE. 19.) Without Me, There Would Be No Ethics Bill . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you didn't write it, introduce it, change it, or create it. 20.) The Ethics Bill Was Hard To Pass . . .
NOT EXACTLY: it took just 14 days from start to finish. 21.) I Wrote A Tough Nuclear Bill . . .
NOT EXACTLY: your bill was rejected by your own party for its pandering and lack of all regulation -- mainly because of your Nuclear donor, Exelon, from which David Axelrod came. 22.) I Have Released My State Records . .
NOT EXACTLY: as of March, 2008, state bills you sponsored or voted for have yet to be released, including all the special interests pork hidden within. 23.) I Took On The Asbestos Altgeld Gardens Mess . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were part of a large group of people who remedied Altgeld Gardens. You failed to mention anyone else but yourself in your books. 24.) My Economics Bill Will Help America . .
NOT EXACTLY: your 111 economic policies were combined into a proposal which lost 99-0, and even YOU voted against your own bill. 25.) I Have Been A Bold Leader In Illinois . .
NOT EXACTLY: even your own supporters characterize your actions as careful rather than bold. 26.) I Passed 26 Of My Own Bills In One Year . . .
NOT EXACTLY: they were not YOUR bills, but rather handed to you after their creation by a fellow Senator, 'to assist you in a future bid for higher office'. 27.) No One on my campaign contacted Canada about NAFTA . . .
NOT EXACTLY: the Canadian Government issued the names and a memo of the conversation your campaign had with them. 28.) I Am Tough On Terrorism . . .

NOT EXACTLY: you used tactics to eliminate Alice Palmer from running against you. 31.) I Don't Take PAC Money . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you take loads of it. 32.) I don't Have Lobbyists . . .

you are hilarious with all of your "facts". none of the stuff that you put in your blog even matters. even if half of what you said in your rant were true, none of that stuff is relevant to who he is today. this is a ongoing issue that i have seen time and time again used by right wing people, they just dig up all this dirt and try to use it to scare people. use your time and effort for good, stop all the hatred. luckily i am not one who is easily swayed without researching things for myself, but for the many who have changed the polls in the last few days and are very easily swayed, i say shame on you. why not post things to empower people to make an educated decision, with factful information, instead of this slanderous gossip. post mccains platforms on issues that are pertinent to americans, like healthcare, education, the housing crisis, etc. that would help even me out a lot, as i cant seem to find his stance anywhere on most of the issues important to america. once again i say shame on you!!!

No, the women did NOT destroy McCain. Joy looked like the loud mouth left's puppet that she is and Barbara was simply, Baba WaWa. Whoopi sat with her typical scowl when she isn't able to get her way. McCain came across as solid, knowledgeable, honest and great presidential material. Joy's big contribution was to call McCain a "liar".

Yes, racism is alive and well. Just because people don't want to vote for an inexperienced person with very slim record of achievements related to what he proposes to do, it's racism. I suppose the 90%+ African American voters that support Obama, including Oprah, do so because of their vast knowledge of his stand on the issues and plan policies. And, please don't mention that most African Americans are voting for Obama because they vote Democratic. They weren't split on their vote when Hillary was running.

The article talks about segments of the white population. Why not discuss segments of the African American population and their patterns.
A lot of Americans & our troops are voting for Obama. That pretty presumptious to know how people are voting. Even pollsters say that it's just an early indicator. And the real significance to polls is just for campaign strategists to formulate tactics and target groups.
FYI, what percentage of our troops are African American. Do you know?

The main point is that yes some voters will vote for the wrong racist reasons --- and this includes all races. But the overwhelming majority of American voters will vote according to who they believe is the best person for the job. So far, the race from both sides have degenerated into gutter politics. Obama has morphed into Karl Rove. That's why this is such a close race.

Billy, Please don't ASSume you know why Black people are voting for Barack, sure some black people are voting for Barack because of skin color, just like some whites or not voting for him because of his skin color. SAD BUT TRUE. I'm voting for Barack because I feel like he is the best candidate, people kill me with the experience argument, Bush had plenty "experience" and look what mess he made these past 8 years and you expect people black, white, green, or blue to vote for a man who agreed with him 90% of the time Get Real. Common sense: Get some!!!

Common sense dictates that these political campaigns are targeting racial groups. Obama is mobilizing the African American vote, for example. McCain is target older white audience.
The poster questioned why voters would not vote for Obama, strongly implying it is because of the color of his skin. To assume that anyone not voting for Obama is a racist is racism.

Yes Blacks are looking at his stance on the issues. The Republicans think they are running in 1958. Yes we Blacks can and do read, we do pay attention to these ads and statements, and personal histories just like everyone else. I voted for Bush twice ( big mistake), and I supprted McCain until very recently. I don't agree with many of Obama's positions on things such as raising corprate taxes ( will negatively impact jobs) oil windfall taxes ( will be passed on to the consumer and why punish a private company for being successful) alternative fuels ( oil used to manufacture ethonal, lack of support for nuclear, which is clean and safe). But my 2 most important issues are the economy and the war on terror. McCain has lost my vote because of HIS stance. He has NO answer or knowledge as to the economy. He was against increasing the benifits in the GI BIll because they were "too generous". And he has no plan to win in Iraq or Afghanistan. Those are my reasons, I'll give you a few of why other Blacks won't vote for him: MLK Jr holiday ( McCain led fifht against it), Confederate flag on S. Carolina statehouse ( McCain for it as "southern heritage") and his family owned slaves and fought for the confederacy.

Billy, if you are truly mixed or person of color as you say, then what you write is purely ignorant:
                                                  1. 95% of Blacks have voted for white candidates so was that racism, since to you, 95% of Blacks voting for a black candidate is racism.

                                                  2. If you remember, Obama did not have 95% of the black vote when he started. Hilary had the huge majority for a long time. Go read a little about it. Obama worked hard to win the black vote. So now, you Mr. person of color. think blacks are so ignorant that they switched to Obama because of his skin color rather than his message.

You are a disgrace to people of color for your ignorant post. You probably are not a person of color but Karl Rove/Dick Cheney, or if you truly are, then you are one ignorant m.f. Either way, you are a disgrace to people of color.

Some older Blacks were scared he would be assassinated. That's why the comment Hillary made was unforgivable by Blacks. While others thought "they" would not allow him to win. One segment of the population that was not polled is Black women. And we are still left out the loop.

It's funny how this article keeps contradicting itself. It says McCain has the lead from likely voters. Just who did they poll in this survey? More people voted during the primaries this year on just Obama and Hillary than in the last election for the president combined. It also said Obama has a lead of 2 to 1 on the economy. Maybe it's me but somehow I thinks this poll was just a bit bias. Wonder what the title of this article would read if they dropped the likely voter and polled a complete demographic?

Thanks. Without some more study, I can't rattle off stats on demographics.

I was raised in Ohio and I think I have a good feel for it. Maybe you have seen my "guns and boats" post.

An old political axiom says that general elections are decided by guys with guns and boats. There are sure a lot of these in Ohio and western PA. I feel somewhat confident that Ohio will be red. Lots of "regular" folks there that just don't connect with a Community Organizer from Chicago. (They don't even know what CO's do). With Palin coming on board, the guys with guns and boats and middle class women are squarely in the McCain-Palin camp.

If McCain wins OH, VA and IN - he is at 260 electoral college votes. He still has to get 10 more to win and where does he get them?

Choices are MI or PA - done deal - but what if he gets neither? Then from NV, NM and CO, he HAS to have two out of three. Uphill battle but doable.

The polls seem to exclude all of the new voters that have registered. Where it doesn't it sticks to 1 demographic (white males). What I was able to find that covers the general public has McCain behind in the polls. The article doesn't mention this. Yes some Reps that where gonna vote for Obama have gone back to the party. Except for the misleading headline however it's seems Obama is in the lead. Most of what I was able to find seems to validate some of the more colorful racist statements I've seen (put it mildly GOOD OLD BOY NETWORK).
I also looked into the corruption problems of the last election. Voting machines, votes not counted, etc:. People are already expecting the same kind of corruption. In FL, GA, PA, and CO people that have been registered for years as Dems are getting letters telling them there not registered or have to reregister due to paperwork issues.

                                                                  Obama

                                                                  McCain

Says he is for the troops but has voted against or tabled bills to improve medical care for or Veterans and troops. Chose a running mate that is married to a separatist.

Now I'm finding that people that have been registered voters for years as DEMS are being told they are no longer registered. That's a little to fishy this close to the election. People are posting articles about the corruption in FL during the last election and expecting a repeat.

Or, you could always vote for McCain and we could go completely bankrupt trying to "win" a war that has simply turned into us killing the people that live there. (oh yea, I forgot, if they are against foreign invaders in Iraq they're called insurgents, if they're against foreign invaders in the U.S. we call them freedom fighters).
Or maybe, since putting our huge bloody foot on Iraq we've managed to piss off enough people that we can justify bombing Iran? Sure, plenty of money for that. You can bet that even though all but a couple of the 9/11 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia, McCain and Palin will be good pals with the oil sheiks over there.

I can't believe anyone would question Obama wanting to spend money on social programs for the poor, the elderly, children, and the environment...if you are outraged by your tax money being wasted, then why are you not screaming about your tax money being spent in a war with no purpose and no end? I don't buy it.

I am just upset that some people rather help other countries then help people who live in America. What was the slogan "Country First". You will always have those who take advantage of the system. But I insist that is not the majority. What is wrong with helping someone who is facing some hardships. What we need is welfare reform. What we need is a a timeframe for aid. I do not envy anyone who has to live on welfare or foodstamps. 9 times out of 10 they are living in poor conditions.

I'm quite tired of hearing that the only reason that Obama is behind is because white Americans refuse to vote for him because he's black. What about the 90+% of blacks who are voting for Obama exactly for the same reason?

It seems to me that with the same basic support that John Kerry had, that the argument can't be intellectually honest that whites are against Obama for racial reasons. Or was Kerry black too and nobody noticed?

Second of all if Obama loses this election it will be becaue of all the white people like you that won't vote for him solely because he is black. I am sick to death of all the bigotry that still exists in this country. It is a shame to have such a qualified individual who could finally help this country after 8 years of a moron, and people won't vote for him because of his race. I really thought before this election that times had changed and the KuKlux Clan was gone. I guess I was wrong.

First of all Blacks are only 13% of the population of this country, and no one wins w/ 13% tahat would be a landslide loss. There are plenty of non Blacks voting for him. Iowa is 95% white and his win there is what propelled his campaign. Besides that if being Black is such an advantage now would you want to be Black? Would you like to go back in time and relive your life as a Black person? Would you have a problem if your daughter brought home someone of a different race? If yes why? if no why not? Your answers to those questions will tell you all you need to know about race in this country.

Do you realize that the majority of Blacks vote Democrat. But you would never know until now since a Black man is running for office. What about the Black woman. Am I half racist? What have the GOP said to convince Blacks to vote for them. They don't care about the community. They only care about that 1%. You can look at the RNC and see who they represent. I voted for Al Gore, Kerry, Martin Omalley for Govenor of MD who are ALL white Democrats. So are 90% of Blacks just racist in 2008?

To learn that the Obamas and the Bidens have been so stingy and selfish with their donations, despite rising incomes through book deals, etc. is not very flattering to them. Biden claims to be Catholic and Obama says he is a Christian. Whatever they are I suppose only God knows. I know of many, many individuals who are very much less fortunate financially than the Obamas and the Bidens, but still they give 10% of their income or more to churches and/or other charities. I know that the McCains are very generous with their money. Cindy, in particular, is wealthy but she does not keep her wealth to herself but she is a true philanthropist.

And, she has agreed to release her tax returns although Mrs. Kerry (Heinz) did not when her husband, John Kerry, was running for office 4 years ago.

As for the Obama's charitable givings, if indeed he did not give his 10% to the church, then you all can leave him alone about Rev. Wright. No black man sits in a large Black church without giving. Now, as for Colin Powell, all whites may think he is all that because he was in Republican party but I watched the man make a case for us to go to war in Iraq and he is either stupid or was such a fool that he could not see that he was being used. I could see it and the fact that he will not come out and make amends for it makes me trust him less. I said the day that I saw him speak that he had sold his soul to the devil. He will never be president because the fact is that a lot of whites would never vote for him and I will tell you that even though I have never voted for anybody white over a black person, I would write in my own name before I would vote for Colin Powell.

Now, lookk at the article. People were expressing feeling closer to McCain and although they did not say it was because he was white, they have nothing else in common with him. How is a man with millions of dollars (mind you, old money much like the Bush) be so much like most of the working class? I give him credit for his military service but he has done nothing else since then except sit in Congress. How much work is that? Remember that Obama came to Congress late and had to have been doing something before then. Bush jr and McCain have never worked. (As an aside, with a Master's degree I spent 11 years as an enlisted woman in the Marine Corps so there is svery little that all of you people who talk so much about country while you sit at home can tell me.). You can make your jokes about Community Organizer all you want but at least he did something except try to make money for himself.

When in 1991, the Senate voted itself a pay increase, McCain OPPOSED it and since then has donated the increase to charity. The total for that since 1991 is $450,000.

McCain, however, who became worth billions when he married his wife, is the wealthiest. Biden's has a net worth of $150,000 while McCain has at least a billion. Thus McCain should be donating thousands more than Biden. Obama worked as a community organizer for four years instead of taking a lucrative job on Wall Street to pay his school loans off. They were broke before he sold his first book. You are really clutching at straws if you are going to not vote for someone because they didn't donate enough money. It is okay for thousand of people to lose their homes and jobs because of Bush but you are going to vote for him because he gives to charity. I would rather have someone help me keep my home and job then donate money to me.

So are you telling me her money is not his money? Really????? Is that what Republicans believe - that my wife of 30 year's money is not mine? Or are you using that silly notion to defend the fact that the McCains, unlike other married politicians, have released their returns? I don't care if she is a pauper or very rich, but this argument that it is her money is the silliest thing I have heard from Republicans. Give it up.

They are even filing separate tax returns. Many couples have those sorts of pre-nups or other arrangements. Nevertheless, check out John McCain's tax return (public record) and you will see that he is a very generous giver, although he is not a wealthy man. Cindy is involved with charities here and abroad.

That is the 90% or so of blacks who support Obama. Just the same old liberal rants - ignore the pertinent facts and find only those facts that suit your position. I am white and I am NOT racist but I will not vote for Obama because he is a supremely ignorant person who has no business in any executive position - especially as the President of the USA!

The point of the study is to try to explain why this election is even close. It's insane that anyone would vote for McCain after the GOP has pillaged the country in the last 8 years.

So explain to us Reagan: How can you vote against your own economic well being over and over? How can you vote for someone that will stomp this country into the ground??

Obama is not ignorant. He is very intelligent and educated, and so is Biden. It is McCain and Palin that lack educated and discipline.

Obama and Biden will do their best to help their country and the people that live her. McCain and Palin will drive us deeper into debt with war and division.

Obama talks a good story about wanting EVERYONE ELSE to do charity work, to serve in the military or go overseas, but what has HE done? He did some community work, but let's talk about what work he did. What can you tell me that he did for others for which he received no pay nor anything to help him in his career. How many hours, how long, hmmmm? He wants others to spend a couple of years doing this work to pay off their school loans, etc., and then wants us to believe that he turned down other more lucrative offers to do service work. Yet, it was only a year or so ago that he talked about how he couldn't find a job and didn't want others to end up in the same situation. So which is it, Obama, did you take the service work because that was all you could find or did you turn down (notice, he has NEVER talked about what jobs and with whom, lol) lucrative jobs to give back to the community?

I am hoping that older white people will be able to overcome their misgivings and possible racism and vote for a biracial candidate. I am hoping this is the case but my hope is slipping. The young seem ready for the change. They are looking for someone who can possibly make their lives better and are willing to vote for the future. Some older white people don't seem quite ready yet. Deep down, a man so unfamiliar to what they look like is unpredictable, too foreign. Remember the old saying, " it's better to dance with the devil you know......" They hold onto old stereotypes instead of looking at the man in front of them. The fear may cause them to make a mistake they may regret. If so, these people will only have to look in the mirror to know who is at fault.

Good news, however. Sunspot activity is decreasing - signaling the swing to a cooling period. Maybe not in our lifetime, but possibly so, in my opinion we'll be far more concerned about cooling than warming.

Why you say? Ag economies are far more susceptible to cooling than warming. With population growth in the next 100 years approaching what could be reasoned to be a max carrying capacity for the earth, we'll be VERY concerned about anything that limits food production.

Try burned and mutilated Iraqi children...and many many more innocent Iraqis killed than Saddam even dreamed about. Have you been asleep the last eight years? If you are better off then you may be the only one- because the rest of us are making less and paying more for everything. Yes, I agree, the Middle East oil companies have the oil...let's just say out loud that's why Bush was in such a hurry to declare war there. There are any number of despots who could be planning dastardly deeds, I hesitate to say Saddam Hussein stood out in any way from Omar al-Bashir, Kim Jong-il, Hu Jintao, King Abdulla, Than Shwe, Robert Mugabe, Islam Karimov (to name just a few) other than he was sitting on some sand with "our" oil under it. Some of these folks make Saddam's attacks against the Kurds looks like playtime. Are you saying we should invade those countries because they may be planning some dastardly deed against us?

I don't hate Bush, I think he's an inept party boy who got in over his head and made himself look like a complete ass. I really despise the big oil boys that are pulling the Republicans' strings these days. That used to be a rational, but rather conservative Party...now they resemble the Taliban more closely each day.

However, I don't see Obama as any different than the establishment that he is seeking to change. Plan policies and stands on issues are political animals that have changed with public opinion.

Obama promises on campaign financing went out the window when he accumulated a sizeable war chest. Yes, it was the politically appropriate decision to make. But it spoke volumes of the difference between stand up for principles and being just another politician.

This is not about being Republican or Democrat; it's about the future of our country.

The Republican vice presidential nominee told Charles Gibson of ABC News in her first televised interview since being named to the GOP ticket that ``I'm ready'' to be president if called upon. However, she sidestepped on whether she had the national security credentials needed to be commander in chief

Also, please show me where the "Bush Doctrine" is written. I have heard a couple of different opinions as to what it really is. Did Bush ever say he had a "Bush Doctrine" or is this just some name that the press gave to one of his many statements?

If and when they get elected. Palin will step down from VP touting "family commitments". The women will rally around her because she has a newborn with special challenges and a teen pregnant. This will leave MCain to put in another VP and guess who that would be? Yep you guessed it Jeb Bush. YIKES

But, I guess 'blame whitey' would be a more appropriate headline for an MSNBC article. Good lord, why do I bother to come and look at this wreck? Can't help but rubberneck at this travesty.

Anyone care to debate this point?

Fact: Cindy McCain investigated by DEA for drug abuse and stealing drugs from the charity she founded to help bring medical relief to kids around the world. Those drugs wer Vicodin and percoct. Fact: John Mcain's family owned slaves ( Carroll county Mississippi, 52 slaves, one as young as 6 months old according to the 1860 census) Fact: McCain ancestor fought for the Confederacy ( some call it rebellion others call it treason) his name is William Alexander McCain, 5th Miss. Cavalry KIA 1863. Those are facts, look them up

With Obama we have a chance to change the direction of the country and prosper again. With McCain we will have no chance...and we won't deserve a chance either.

Frankly, I think that this country has gotten too big and too divided. Maybe the blue states on the East and West coasts can be one country under Obama and the red states in the middle and south can have McCain for their president.

Of course that would mean that the Federal taxes that are generated by the blue states will stay in the blue states instead of us having to support the red states. But since the red states don't care about their economic well being anyway that shouldn't bother them too much.
