Now that Sarah Palin has done her first (and second, and third) major television news interviews with ABC's Charlie Gibson...what do you think?

Do you like her more or less than you did when she was announced? Than when she made her speech at the RNC?

This will be sort of an interesting unscientific Newsvine tracking poll on Sarah Palin, and I'm interested to see the results. Rather than have someone on TV tell me what you think, I'd rather have YOU tell me what you think.

So...vote in the poll, and then leave a comment.

**Important: Leave a comment citing specific examples from the ABC interview, and why they made you feel the way that you do.**

And then we can discuss the results.

I gave up on her about the time Charlie asked her how being governor of Alaska prepared her to deal with Russia and she said "You can see Russia from an Alaskan island" ... So this is it, huh, folks?

Ya know, I spent a week in The Netherlands, I wonder if I can get Queen Beatrix to name me her heir.

Also, ya know, I can see the stars at night; it doesn't make me an astronaut. (Though, I admit, that would be pretty cool.)

Matt: KUDO 1080 Talk Radio in Anchorage has been running a similar online poll. I think that one asks if she is ready to be Vice President. (Not President)

I checked it out because I thought Alaskans would vote heavily for Palin.

It's running 86% AGAINST Palin, believe it or not.

I have to admit that was a slick trick she tried by filing the ethics complaint against herself. She did this in an effort to move the Troopergate investigation from the hands of the Alaskan Legislature over to the Personnel Board - three people appointed to the job by - you guessed it - Sarah Palin.

Nice try. The Legislature told her no problem there...but they were continuing their investigation anyway. She and her lawyer wanted them to drop it. Some callers at KUDO today wanted Palin to either resign, or for the Legislature to begin impeachment proceedings.

I'm friends with the news director at KUDO. One thing I found out pretty quick about news in Alaska is that the lower 48 hasn't a clue as to what really happens up there most of the time.

Every single time I hear Sarah Palin talk or see her or read about something she has said or done, I literally cannot believe that what my eyes and ears are tell me is happening is HAPPENING! I can't believe the reality ref hasn't blown the whistle on this one! I keep waiting for someone important to get on TV and be like, "You know, the not crazy people of the country have gotten together, and we've come to the conclusion that this makes no sense in any forum, arena or time-space continuum. Do over."

I don't know, man. I just keep looking out my window for the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man.

Correction: Although the Personnel Board are political appointees who serve at the whim of the governor, one was appointed by Palin, the other two by her predecessor. She had to re-certify them though, after she took office.

I'll attempt to add a little balance to your poll by giving you the viewpoint of someone who's not an Obama supporter. I think that she didn't do overall bad but did come across poorly in the first interview with the you can see Russia remark. That one kind of stunned more than a few people.

But on the second interview I was really impressed when she said veterans issues were off the table in regard to spending cuts. McCain has routinely been criticized for his stance on veterans issues and I think she is a sharp contrast to that. She seems to be very devoted to the welfare of our service members. I also found it interesting that she took a neutral stance on homosexuality, that's not a common conservative position.

Now as I've said in several places if you were to ask me if I thought she was ready to take over as president today. I'd say no without hesitation. But I do think she's a very strong woman with good morals, and she has plenty of time to learn what she will need to know. For now I'm willing to say that I like enough of what I've seen to want to know more about her. I think watching the debates will be a good test to form a final opinion on her.

Amused, the problem is you can't elect someone on a likability factor. We've been on that road for the past 8 yrs. I hated Kerry, but he was smart and competent. Personality should only be a secondary bonus. Intelligence, knowledge of, and stances on positions should be the main determining factor along with a vein of consistency. I'll admit Ms. Palin is a very interesting person and we'll likely be seeing more of her over the coming years. But I don't want someone with little to no understanding of foreign policy to be second in line behind a man who's 72 yrs old and has had cancer 3 times. She's not ready. Would you hand the keys of a Ferrari over to a 16 yr old who just got his licence? She doesn't even know what the Vice President does. ( The relevant portion to this comment is about 2:30 in)

Your comment is truly funny! ...and I do hand over the keys of my Lamborghini to a 16 year old! You bet. They are better drivers than the 80 year olds....lol.

If the Dems hadn't dumped Hillary, Sarah Palin wouldn't be on the ticket today! Politics is fun to watch.

So, it makes sense to have a hockey mom and a pit bull with lipstick in the White House especially in the world we see today. It may be exactly what we need. Time will tell.

Palin is rapidly becoming the 2008 version of Thomas Eagleton.

And that's not a knock on Eagleton, an honorable man who quit the VP slot with McGovern because he had a few electric shock treatments for depression. After McGovern replaced him on the ticket with Sargent Shriver - well, you know the rest of THAT story.

Check-in Time at the Reality Hotel: Alaska only has 670,000 residents and they have a lot of pride. It doesn't take long there before word gets out and people turn on you like a pack of wolves. Right now, they are harder on Palin than in the Lower 48, if you can believe that.

Don't believe those cutesy shots you've been seeing on cable news lately about big welcomes and hometown hero. During her landing in Anchorage, they kept a rather large group at bay across the road. They were Alaskans for Obama.

Go check out Alaska media and prepare to be shocked.

Bill - I was only referring to the statement about being able to see Russia from Alaska. I thought she did fine with the NATO issue and some other stuff. It was just that one remark there that kind of shocked me.

Trog - I really do understand those concerns that some have there, but I don't see any realistic danger of anything happening to McCain. Could he possibly die in office? Sure but the democrats should look at that from their own side too and ask how many guys like Byrd who is in his 90's are still kicking and in office. 72 is not that old in today's modern society with the high tech health care available. The only question that really applies there is whether or not she's able to learn what she needs to know in the event something did happen to McCain. From what I've seen of her I'd say she has the ability to learn these details fairly quickly. But again I only say that I like her from what I've seen. I want to see more in the debates and the interviews that will come. It's only a few weeks till election day now but for someone in the national spotlight that's an eternity. with the press basically following your every move it's a good test of how well someone will handle pressure.

Such a level of incompetence never before seen in American politics. That is unless you consider George Jr. Can we afford another 4 years of this? or 8?? Wouldn't you expect that a candidate for president would surround themselves with people that have knowledge in areas that he/she is weak? If you know nothing about economics, invite someone like Greenspan to join you. If you know nothing about national security, invite a Joe Biden. If you can't win on your record, invite someone who's greatest claim to fame is that she is fertile, (excuse me, Pro-Life).

That's what cabinet positions are for. Once the election is over then they pick advisers with strengths in those specific fields to fill their cabinet. I would much prefer to have someone admit that they don't know or understand and seek out qualified advice, rather than pretend they know everything.

Actually given some of Biden's positions (voted against Desert Storm but voted for this war, voted to cut off aid to SVN ensuring that a former ally would be thrown to the wolves, opposed every Reagan era initiative, wanted to partition Iraq) perhaps he should hire a foreign policy adviser.

Putting a poll on the leftist leaning newsvine will hardly be accurate. Take whatever ersults you get here and reverse it and that will tell you what the rest of america is thinking.

Ive taken the time to actually go to the State Government Website, I read their budget and financial and she appears to have done a good job. When I look at the direction the state is goiing, its good.

Palin brings that 'not part of Washington thing' to the table. She will be sucessful because of that, she isnt "plugged in" to DC politics and that is an asset if you want to chenge things because you look at it with fresh eyes.

The fact I got an emil from the Obama campaign on voter registration and the admission (for the first time) saying the race will bve close, tells me they know they are in SERIOUS TROUBLE.

The leftist can sceam and whine and call her trailer trash but she wil. be out next VP and likely president in 2012.

DEAL WITH IT! Intellectual Leftist politics are OVER!

Palin brings that 'not part of Washington thing' to the table.

Except for the fact that she hired Washington lobbyists to take Federal tax dollars and bring pork right home to Wasilla.

And she took the money for the bridge to nowhere. And it's now in the general funds for the state. Nice $227 Million boost there for a state budget of around 1.2 billion.

She has certainly had her hand out in Washington. She'll fit right in with McCain's lobbyist buddies.

This is all sound and fury signifying nothing. Obama will win and Ms. Alaska can go back home.

    Hey Repeat,

Yeah, I know that this poll isn't scientific, as I noted above in the article. I just wanted to poll the Newsvine community, and talk about reaction to the ABC interview.

First, get your webmaster to correct a spelling: it is "definitely" not "definately". :)

I didn't like how rehearsed Palin's answers were, for one thing, and I was horrified by her approach to handling terrorism and foreign conflicts. "Don't blink, just send in the troops." I can see the mushroom cloud already.

Palin proved herself to be totally unsuitable for the position of VP by that interview. (But I already knew that as far back as her speech at the Republican convention.) In the beginning I just wanted to know more about her, but after her speech at the convention I gave up because she totally avoided the issues and went for the jugular by bashing Obama. Now that she was forced to deal with the issues she's bombed again. Her few sensible answers sounded like a 5th grader rehearsing his alphabet. She sounded defensive as if at any moment her eyes would burst into flames and roast poor Charlie. lol. But then again, what did we really expect? She admitted in the first place that she knew nothing about what the position of VP was about, and that she was too busy filling potholes in Alaska to know anything much about the Iraq war. I can accept that from the average teenager, but for an adult involved in politics it's almost unforgivable. McCain's gimmick in choosing Palin is going to fail miserably... opps, I meant to say it has already failed, and the sooner everyone comes to their senses and really take a good look at this woman apart from what Repubs say about her, the better for all of us.

Yea Yea....her interview with Gibson sucked. I saw it, I read it, I strongly disliked it and she pissed me off. She pissed me off b/c she is better than that, and HE pissed me off b/c he took stabs at her that he new she couldn't miss. I think she is an awesome person, and ready to lead. No she doesn't have the experience of travel and I strong knowledge of foreign policy, but lets think about that. For one think since she has been a little busy getting EXECUTIVE experience (ya know that thing NONE of the other candidates have?) and it is the President and the Secretary of State's job to be on top of foreign policy, NOT the VP's. I know everyone wants to make sure if McCain dies she will be able to lead. But seriously? That man is not gong to die anytime soon. He has been through a hell of a lot in his life, and he cares so much for this country. If he thought he was at health risk of dieing in the next 4 years, he would not even being running. Palin saying she could see Russia from Alaska was not her way of saying "I have a foreign policy experience", that was taken out of content. And although she didn't give one direct answer to any of Gibson's questions, what she did say was great and made a lot of sence.

Personally, i think she's brilliant and the right person for the job at the right time in history and has more backbone than all of congress put together. What? She's not smart enough for you? Well, maybe we should put more of the same politcally correct geniuses back into power positions in November, after all, look at the great job they've been doing the past couple decades. Try seeing the whole picture folks and not an off the cuff sentence when it comes to your deciding vote.
