An examination of her swift rise and record as mayor of Wasilla and then governor finds that her visceral style and attacks on critics contrast with her carefully crafted public image.

Another Palin story...

"Hired friends"... I think that this country has learned a lot about the influence and impact of the circle of friends around those in the White House.

Especially the Clintons. And just think how lucky we'll be to have Obama's 'friends' involved! Especially Ayres and the Rev. Wright.

Hahahahaha...inyurhed, I don't eat cows and I am not starving to death. Also, your use of the word elitist is just simply wrong. Throw away that Republican handbook of key words. It doesn't work here. As for the toad comment, I am wart free but you are probably infested throughout your genitals. Isn't that what the Republicans are about ...abstinence...until they get pregnant or get warts.

Does the NYT have any credibility left? I didn't even think anyone read that piece of garbage anymore! I cannot believe how much money is being spent to try and find ways to discredit Palin, yet Obama is being treated like a Rock Star! The sad part of this whole situation is that all of the conversations going on each morning around the coffee pot at work is the same no matter where you are located in this country. The media has shown their true image, and that is an image of 100% support of Obama. What ever happened to just stating the facts? I for one, am tired of opinions getting in the way of the real facts, no matter what side one is supporting!

inyurhed, I'm applauding wildly at your comment! Liberals are a true source of amusement to those of us who provide for them. When they started freaking out about alternative fuels and pushing for ethanol, the folks in the midwest obliged. Instead of saying 'Hey! Thanks for the ethanol!" they now b*tch about the price of their Corn Flakes. Suddenly, ethanol wasn't so important. Now it's Wind they want. Which is fine with farmers. We get the lease when the wind farms are put on our land. How much do you want to bet they complain about how 'ugly' the wind turbines are 2 years from now?

welcome to politics 101....sheeesh people....this is how it works in politics my friends.

Every single Governor in the USA appoints their own people.

every time there is a new Governor , there is another entire group of appointees, which all ways includes , Friends , family and neighbors.

it's a fact of politics , but because it's Palin , and she is a Conservative , it becomes a huge news story.

why not talk about Obamas friends that he had appointed to his group...like the Rev."Stomp the WHitey" Wright.

oh wait...we can't say anything bad about Obama....

elitist toad (properly labeled, as you obviously believe "folks who love cows" are beneath the clintons and yourself),

unless you're living by consuming pine cones and freshly cut grass from your front lawn, you are dependent on farmers for your food, in one form or another. and, as was pointed out by another poster, you are also increasingly dependent on them for your energy.....unless of course, you are sitting at the top of a tree somewhere with a solar powered laptop?

these great people are the backbone of our country, and are responsible for feeding not only us, but many across the planet. for you to look down your nose at them in such a snotty, snobby fashion, is nothing short of disgraceful and shameful. it is people like you, obama, and the "educated", that fulfill the eilitist tag.

and the genital warts/toad thing? soooooo killer. what a brain you must have in that cranium of yours. you must be one of the "educated" elite.

now, i need to get back to clinging to my religion and my guns. have a nice evening up in your tree.

Inyur: Only hee-hawing cowboys and America's brainwashed drones would pick a cow over a tree. Cows are an invasive, introduced, non-native hooved locust. Conversely, Earth's trees are your fresh water and oxygen factories.

Earth's forests, i.e., ecosystems are all the reasons yurhed, you are alive and can chomp on a cow's hiney. Trees also shade the EArth from the heat of the sun and are this planet's carbon sinks. Trees also transpire water into the atmosphere, and it is the trees energy expended upon transpiration that cools the immediate and regional climates, which govern global climate. What is growing or not growing in the soil determines immediate and regional climates; the thicker the trees and vegetation, the cooler the ambient & regional climates and the more transpiration that gifts mankind with the hydrological system. To the brain dead, brainwashed, science phobics, this translates to fresh water, cooler climate, less co2 in the atmosphere and all the reasons mankind is alive.

While mankind can survive without cow and pig lard and hog ranchers and rednecks and human flotsam, i.e., garbage to you, mankind is as dependent upon trees for life, including Earth's biogeochemistry that governs the carbon and nitrogen cycles that loop from the land to the seas and vice versa as he is on ecosystem dependent Earth. Plants and trees are at the bottom of the ecological pyramid and are the veritable strands in the web of all life, just like Palin's wolves, elk and polar bears, i.e., Earth's biodiversity, the rivets that hold spaceship Earth altogether.

Only the mind-controlled robots and human garbage would vote for the scientifically illiterate Republicans. Essentially, they are so low on the IQ totem pole, they are dumb enough to kill their own nest, and even a bird isn't that stupid.

Inny, I hope you enjoy your kicks up on that cows back wherein resides all that free fertilizer and stuffing for the brainwashed, low IQ Americans. Hee Haw.

The media bias going on right now is shocking. I thought I was living in America, not Russia. I read an article this morning that touted Obama as a "super hero". Really? Super hero? You'd think the sweat from this man's brow cured cancer or something. You are being brainwashed and you don't even realize it. Look at the records, do your own research, and stop regurgitating the propoganda spoon fed to you by the mainstream media. Don't get me wrong...I was never a fan of McCain. However, the choice is between a not-so-conservative republican and a guy who spouts a socialist agenda of welfare and wealth redistribution. Be careful what you ask for. These are ideas espoused by the Bolsheviks.

Do I think Obama is a bad guy? No. But I think even good men can have entirely wrongheaded ideas. That holds true in this case.

Just finished reading this article and I am shocked and appalled. First, why did it take three people to write such drivel? Second, everything in the article was hearsay. There was no hard evidence of anything other than what some disillusioned employees whispered to tabloidesque reporters. Hell, you could come to my town and dig up all kinds of crap on me by people who have never even met me. This article belongs in a gossip rag (if that) not in a newspaper purporting itself to be an instrument for the dissemination information. My god, the media really HAS gone crazy! God forbid that someone actually kept a secret and got one over on them! We all know how the media was left holding their softballs when McCain gave Fox News the confirmation that he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. Because of this and the fact that her nomination has set the Democrats on their heels, the media has been trying to dig up every little morsel of dirt they can find. Well, hell, if this is all you can come up with after invading that poor town and invading the privacy of its citizens, harassing them at every store and every corner... then enjoy your fifteen minutes cuz it aint gonna last. Folks know who the best candidates are and they are not the media fed privately paid off NoBama and Biden.

    trash,

well, you enjoy eating your tree, and i'll stick with a thick, juicy steak....perhaps with a side of mashed potatoes and corn, a slice of bread.....maybe even some apple pie for dessert. and while i'm enjoying that feast, i'll remain thankful to the god and the farmers who provide it.

now, if you'd like to get away from the rednecked flotsam like me, feel free. there are plenty of countries across the globe with governments already set up and semi-operational with your values and beliefs....and your obvious superiority to the low-brow beasts that call themselves conservatives. or maybe, you and your fellow blue states can secede from the union. i'm sure i can talk to my fellow red-staters and convince them to allow it. just don't be expecting us to bail your butts out everytime your weakness is exposed by some country with an aggressive boy scout troop.

i'm just glad i don't have as big a brain as you have. my redneck would get awfully sore holdin' my head up with all that weight.

btw...before whitey got here, wasn't there another "hooved locust" roaming wild, crapping all over the place?

I'm trying to figure out why it's a big deal that she 'hired friends'. Should she have hired critics? Run an ad on CareerBuilder.com? I can just see it now:

"Wanted. 1 Secretary of Agriculture for the State of Alaska. Open to Local residents only. No relocation provided. Competitive salary and benefits. If interested please fill out our online application"

This is as silly as the 'per diem' story they ran. I noticed that one vanished quickly. Most likely when a lot of blue collar democrats started saying "Hey. Wait a minute. I get a per diem when I'm on the job site, and I get reimbursed for my expenses too."

fact of the matter is that almost ALL newly elected officials bring in their own team.

This is not an uncommon practice. I have seen it a lot in government the problem is getting caught. Mr. Bush hired FEMA Brown with little more qualification than running a horse show. The result was one of the worst disasters in the nations history. Lesson for Mr. Bush? Nope he still has a job and Palin seemed to take a page out of his book. The problem for her is she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar but the Repubs will do a job like they did for Mr. Bush to minimize this and say "No big deal they all do it". Palin will not stop these tactics once in office. If you look at her history it is filled with resentful firings and hate calls to people. Of course those who fall in line reek the benefits. If anyone questions my information just look it up because no matter how much someone says "She is a good story" or "That is not true" the facts are facts. Maybe God wanted her to hire these people because according to her and that crazy church she belongs to God wanted the Iraq war and thousands dead. If you get a chance look at her church. Full of nuts who contend they will be forming a committee with god and rule the world. But let us not talk about her crazy Church right? I mean who would talk about someone's church? Hey another thing you want to see some teens getting wasted on beer go to her kids MySpace page. Looks like a party every night at the Palin house but maybe God wanted that.

I think the sign(s) should say Obama / Media 08'!

I don't get it...next headline we'll probably hear: "Palin uses pencils made from Alaskan trees" - or - "Palin used to leave buggy out in the parking lot at Wal-Mart" I mean, it's mind boggling enough that the folks reporting the news want to make it crystal clear they support the Democratic ticket - than to add the humorous and obvious attempt to dis-credit (in even trivial ways) the one person who FLIPPED THEIR CAMPAIGN UPSIDE DOWN!

Where are the headlines like: "Obama was a muslim for 31 years and studied Holy Koran"
"Obama seeks presidency after just 143 days in the US senate" "Obama's economic plan = BIG tax increases" "Obama less experienced than GOP VP candidate Palin" "Obama = the liberals choice"

Come on America, Obama is pretty smooth behind that microphone - I have to admit his speeches are emotionally moving - but you know better than to put him in office...Don't you? If you want to hear an "Obama speech" then go to church on Sunday morning - any preacher in America can get you riled up the way he does...But be warned - reality doesn't melt away like magic. That is why Obama's followers are sadly mis-led. He speaks of all of his change, but hasn't been a senator long enough to have even changed his day planner insert(s)!

Here we go again..another person blaming the media for telling the truth. I guess when the media is talking about Rev Wright they are "evil" too. Some people make me laugh. You can not have it both ways. Unlike FOX news who who has most of the Bush family working for them many stations actually want to tell the truth. Anyone who wants to see Mccain in action watch him on the "View". The man was torn up and the "View" is for women and gave him every chance to say his mind. He said Palin never took earmarks and Palin sought $197 million in so-called "earmarks" for 2009. In the previous budget year, she asked for earmarks worth $256 million. Wow he fumbled the ball this early. Also, he said he never ran negative ads and tried unsuccessfully to change the subject when confronted. Interestingly he said Palin never flip flopped but evolved. Interesting that evolving never was said when Bush ran. These are his words not the medias so the blame game should start at home here and stop blaming the media for a really bad candidate.

repugs are such hypocrites!!! You people justify killing people in the name of justice. Besides the fact that we have suffered under a Bush regime for the past 7 years is justification for impeachment. This man (bush) is the epitome of cronyism; hiring unqualified people throughout his administration, hence is why America is in the deplorable shape it's in. It is why we are in an unjust war, why we are losing millions of job, and losing homes. Why we don't have decent education for our children. Why America is not competing in the global economy. Why the we sacrificed a CIA operative for political gains, and why we relied on 1 source to justify a war. Bush and the republican party are incompetent religious extremists, who need to be stopped, or this country will surely fall to foreign powers. If McBush is elected, America will soon fail to exist.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!! Don't be fooled by christian extremist freaks, who believe they have the right to involve America in a holy war. These people are dangerous, and will destroy America as we know it.

The New York Times has once again shown itself to be nothing more than a ragged mouthpiece for the liberal left. Conspicuously absent from it's pages are stories of graft and cronyism pertaining to their darlings Obama and Biden. It puzzles me to read so many negative posts about the NYT. If you don't like it or what is on this forum, you are free to read something else, and find a forum more to your liking. I thought it was a pretty good article, in fact most of what they stated I have read elsewhere. And most of it can be proved, just ask the people or look up the records, and since all you negative posters are so interested in the truth, why don't you just go out and research it and ease your minds. The Repugs have told so many lies, I guess you folks just assume everyone else does to. Palin is a nut job, and if she were Democrat, you people would be having a field day. She is nothing more than a distraction for McCain. The more she distracts from the real issues, the less McCain looks like an idiot. It will soon wear off, and people will wonder how the Republicans could have picked such a loser. And I know people who are changing their minds because of McCain's pick, and are voting for Obama now. And I believe it will keep happening.

dal- and anyone else who is still believing one of the liberal media's greatest scams---
      since you brought it up-
FEMA's Brown never--- I repeat never was in the horse business. A website called "jacka**" put this up on their site- however it was not true. M brown was one of the most qualified the US had to offer for this position. That is the truth....
So lets straighten out a few other notes on this subject- 1. If you had looked on the governor of La. website within a week after Katrina, you would have found hurricane plans made before Katrina for a lot of areas- BUT NOTHING for the 9th ward and the many of the other areas so devastated.
      2. Had you watched the play by play of what happened and noted what was said carefully, you would have heard that the Fed Govt offered to send equipment and troops in (who else do they have to do this work?) and the woman gov. told them to wait. 3. The governor of La. had COMPLETE authority on FEMA's and the Fed. govt. response to what happened. This is due to something called "STATES RIGHTS." Until the La. governor said yes- the Feds could nothing more than set on standby. To march in, would have been illegal- not to mention federal take over by force of a state. 4. I remember Nagel pleading more than once and with fustration on TV for her to authorize the resources she needed to and she didn't. I remember watching M Brown state over and over that she had not given them the authorization- I remember when it was discussed the news media questioning having federal "forces" come into help and how "bad" that might be. Even the governors of other states pleaded with her to give this autorization. It was maddening! (Note: the citizens of Louisiana no longer have her as their governor!)
      5. Bush even said he would come as talk to her personally after calling her multiple times about it! Of course, the media said Bush shouldn't go down there with all the mess- then hollared why wasn't he there!
at end, I think this is a case where the polictics of hating Bush and the woman just being unable to make a decision cost too many to much and cost many all. The partican polictics are not worth what it cost New Orleans! Once she was pretty much forced to say yes- you may remember special dem staff was sent to help her- then M Brown was made a scapegoat and fired. The feds came in and got things together as much as possible by rescues and enforcement of law, etc.
Then, things slowed down and went painfully TOO SLOW- still are! I have often wondered what the situation would have been if M Brown had been there and allowed to do what FEMA is suppose to. If we want to blame the feds in some way- then we must look to the levees and other ways they worked aroung this issue over the past decades. And what is so ridiculous today? Massive fed projects could have been put in place to build and fix and do so much more since Katrina- but SLOW is still the speed that things are moving at.
What a shame for all of us- and especially for Louisiana!!! It is no wonder Congress sits with 8% as an approval rating- and I am not so happy with the executive branch in this area either. Kennedy forced the space program and got in done in record time--- the same sense of urgency should have applied to this situation!
I am glad Palin and Hillary for that matter are women who can make decisions and have done so-
Finally, all politicians do surround themselves with their friends and steer clear of foes-
no wonder Obama did not choose HIllary-

Anytime someone uses liberal or left label I figure they are talking out of the side of their mouth. I say this because they try to use it like a dirty word to distract from their explaination being lame. Brown was an idiot and so was Bush. killerb, you are supposed to hire people that apply, once they have proven there qualifications and meet the hiring requirements. Do you have any idea of how hard it is to apply, qualify, and finally be awarded a government job? The process is hard enough buy itself, then to add the cronyism and favoritism to the mix.

Jet_gypsy and Pet N, I ask you to remember that during the Clinton years America had the best economic growth and prosperity seen in decades. Regardless of the problems the administration had (and that all have) America was better for all. I cannot say that for these last eight years.

ROY WILSON-336103, why is it that when people do not like a story and have nothing to backup or rebut it with, the last resort is to react like a pouting 12 year old school boy. If the information is not correct, find and show why it is not correct. Explain yourself why do you feel it is wrong and give intelligent arguments, instead of these one line escape clauses of frustration.

hey folks read this economic article regarding our economic challenges...
Once you read, no one in their right mind can argue McCain/Palin will even comprehend these challenges, let alone be able to formulate any plan to overcome them,,,
they may turn to Bush Inc and Cheney but they orchestrated this mess...so what to do ???

Read and weep Repubs, oh and this guy isnt a political writer Jon Markman is an economic writer and considering McCain and Palin are economic illiterates I know neither could comprehend our challenges.

here is the article , you can copy it into your browser

      articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/SuperModels/a-desperate-but-necessary-bailout.aspx

or you can find it under the title
"A desperate but necessary bailout" by Jon Markman , he is a full on bear (i've never seen him right a bull argument but he is sharp, this is way above McCains and Palins heads.

the news media is predominately liberal and makes no bones about it when you look at the facts of who owns them and who those folks support. To assume that the left is all liberal and the the right are all neo cons is an oversimplification. I understand that you believe that M brown and Bush are ignorant, foolish, stupid laymen who are extremely retarded. (websters)
The info I provided you came from CNN, ABC, CSpan, and the website of the then governor of Louisiana. To consider these sources a smokescreen is certainly your right.
If we believe the reports coming out about Palin- she is getting more in the middle ground every day! Certainly neocons are fiscally responsible. Hey- that means Bush is not a neocon either! The designations blurr- don;t they?

Good dialogue. I do appreciate a well thought out response. Now you will get varying reports on who is responsible for what but as a government employee I look at the chain of command. When there is a breakdown it goes to all levels. Take for example Brown when Kitrina was going on he was golfing sending emails back asking what tie he should wear. Do I think this was exaggerated? No way. I see it happening every day. Fact is he did not understand what he was doing because he never worked that function before. This happens too often and makes the good employees look bad too. The sad thing is people suffered because Bush hired his golfing buddy and not a qualified employee. To say Palin did this is not surprising and the facts speak for themselves. She rewards those who serve her purpose. Now to call media liberal that does not serve Republicans purpose is just labeling to discredit information. FOX news supported Bush for years and still puts out information that is misleading. For that matter a lot of media published Mccains lie about sex ed in kindergarten and that silly thing about pigs and lipsticks. The media was not liberal when this was said so why are they now? I honestly believe that Mccain is reaching deep in his pockets and coming up with lint.

A new HBO documentary called "Hacking Democracy" (posted on GoogleVideo) proves that ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES ARE EASILY INFLUENCED TO FAVOR ONE PARTICULAR CANDIDATE and, therefore, the 2008 Presidential election may already be rigged. The 2000 and 2004 elections probably were rigged to favor Bush and the documentary shows why. Proof that electronic voting machines are not secure has been presented to voting authorities, yet they continue to use them, and order more machines! If you want your vote to count, get the word out and start demanding a secure process.

To JackB: McCain talks about he's the agent of change and a maverick - in the 28 years he has been in Congress - just what has he changed?

Well, if you go back to 1980 to now a lot has changed as he was part of a working system of lawmakers. During that time John McCain voted for and against based on personal view, not party view thus making him a maverick. The proof is in the pudding, as you can easily find where he voted against his own party many times over the years. That known, brings change in itself to Washington - much less what he and Palin claim to bring to the presidency - which I am excited to see.

      Now, may I ask:
      1. How many times has Obama voted against his party in his 143 days as Senator?
      2. What has Obama changed other than his mind on a few issues like oil, abortion, etc?
      3. What physical PROOF is there to show that Obama can change anything?

Obama is begging you to *Stand with him, and believe with him (cue churchy organ music) and change the world with him, and believe IN him...blah blah blah* He has nothing but the emotion he pulls out of you as a campaign tool. People are just turned on by the notion that if HE is different, so should his RESULTS be different too. A breath of fresh air? Change we can believe in? Come on folks, don't be fooled - this guy was born to be a car salesman - or a lawyer - to use his gift of gab to gab, not run the entire free world.

Take a look at current and former governor's across the USA going way back, not just now.

This is such typical Republican behavior. If Palin shows this power abuse at this level think of what she will do in the Whitehouse. We do not need four more years of what we have had in the last eight with Bush. If anybody thinks it will change with McCain and Palin you need to wake up and smell the coffee. I haven't heard any details of what or how McCain or Palin plan to change anything.

killerb - boy another talking point "The truth about Bush/Cheney agenda is killing me!!!!" Well, maybe you forgot, but Bush is not running for President, he can't. Our constitution prohibits it. Also, Cheney isn't running for President, his pace maker prohibits it.

So, if you mean that McCain/Palin ticket is the same as another eight years of Bush/Cheney, I guess you also forgot that Bush and Republicans have hated McCain. I suppose it got so bad that Kerry met with McCain in 04' to have him be his running mate (as a Democrat). I believe you also forgot McCain's speech at the 08' convention (if you watched some other channel besides MSNBC). He reached out to all. I truly believe that McCain, will work with all in the best interest of this great country. In fact, that is what we all want. I don't believe Obama will. That is my opinion, and as an American I am entitled to it, as are you. I just think you are wrong and influenced by the media, which is the purpose of this blog.

Reading these posts is a study in what's really wrong w/our country (U.S.A.). Instead of having evolved into a nation of learned folk, we have half a populace indoctrinated w/the talking points programmed into them just the way the neo-CON machine wants it. Rove & Co. distilled & refined Nazi technique, no small wonder considering what spawned the current Bush clan.

Göring spoke about war and extreme nationalism to Captain Gilbert, as recorded in Gilbert's Nuremberg Diary:
" Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. ...voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

So when poor uneducated folks regurgitate "ideas" like, "elitist" and "liberal news media", you know, the things that Rush, and O'Reilly, and Foxnews TELL them to say, it makes intelligent people afraid for the future of this land. The one thing we should be, at the very least, is EDUCATED. But when there are forces that convince some folks to fear or ridicule intellect [those damned ELITISTS], they only succeed in keeping alive a slave class that will do as they SAY. And all the weasels have to do is wave a flag, say patriotism, talk about Jesus, and they could screw you, tell you the OTHER guy is screwing you and your little brain will accept it. WAKE-UP and actually READ the NYT, or whatever you read, and seek out independant FACTChecks too.

FEMA's Brown never--- I repeat never was in the horse business. A website called "jacka**" put this up on their site- however it was not true. M brown was one of the most qualified the US had to offer for this position.

Natilda: I have numerous friends in the emergency planning and policy field and they say that Bush shredded a FEMA organization that had been rebuilt by Clinton after years of Republican neglect. They say Brownie was grossly unqualified.

I agree that the mayor of N.O. and the governor of La. made some big mistakes, but I also remember the Governor pleading on national TV with tears in her eyes for help. The Bush people said that she didn't fill out the right form and so they couldn't give any help.

I am deeply offended that people would try to invent a revisionist cover-up of what the federal goernment did to New Orleans. Favoristism, nepotism, politicizing public service have severely injured our nation. Of course this has happened since George Washington but the practice shoudl still be deplored.

Maybe the NYT article is sketchy but you can't blame them. It is unfortuante that we have to vet this candidate after she was nominated. Palin might be a good candidate for the right wing voter in the year 2012, but no one can honsetly say that she is a low risk, confidence-inspiring candidate for national office this year. (Maybe Todd could say so, but he is a bit biased.)

All politicians surround themselves with people they know, their friends and relatives. People are so partisan they are not even handed one bit their thinking. Why sometimes they put their relatives in their cabinets... Kennedy ring a bell... Why, if you were in a position of power would you surround yourself with strangers and unknowns. Look at the aids they hire... If we want change in our government we have to be honest in our comparisons ... rely on public records and pretty much ignore the press...

After the Clintons we had 0 debt and by the by they hired Republicans and did not discriminate against Republican DA's. I don't care if it's FOX, NBC, CNN, or what. Even when one of the news networks decides to have a discussion among people of varying points of view, it often is nothing more than more of the same throwing of slurs and inuendo.

Watch a speech given by either candidate and then listen carefully to the "News" analysis of the speech you just watched. It's like you were watching totally different speeches. Why?

Great reference! Somehow the current administration and the advice from local circles comes to mind on Mr. Britten's comment. Well put!

Wow, like that's never happened before in politics. It doesn't matter you know why?

McCain/Palin aren't Obama/Biden and THAT'S enough! Sometimes you may not know who you want, but you DEFINITELY know who you DON'T want.

So she'll fit right in with McCain and his Bush cohorts!! If you can't manage people in an enlightened way, crush them with intimidation and denigrate their capabilities. It's worked for the past 8 years in the Bush White House. And, like Johnny boy is proud of saying, "I've supported the President on over 90% of his positions."

You know there are things I like about Obama, and some I don't. Vise versa with McCain. The press is so Pro-Obama, well, except Fox, but that is one national network against four. I love your MSNBC talking points. Again, you are sooooo MSNBC!!!!

You must be doing something really wrong, killerb. I've THRIVED under Bush/Cheney. Just like most people who don't look to the government for handouts, live within their means and support their families.

Try working for a living. Taking a little responsibility, maybe. Then you can stop blaming Bush and Cheney for your 'near death' life.

Her mother-in-law, Faye Palin, has been asked not to speak to reporters, and aides sit in on interviews with old friends.

At a recent lunch gathering, an official with the Wasilla Chamber of Commerce asked its members to refer all calls from reporters to the governor's office. Diane Woodruff, a city councilwoman, shook her head.

"I was thinking, I don't remember giving up my First Amendment rights," Ms. Woodruff said. "Just because you're not going gaga over Sarah doesn't mean you can't speak your mind."

Some really funny stuff - both in the article and posted here. One conservative poster writes that Obama voted with his party 97% of the time - and only a few posts down another conservative poster writes that he voted with Bush 80% of the time. You guys might want to get your talking points straight before airing them publicly.

The higher taxes scare tactic is a good, tried and untrue method. Especially when it has been repeatedly debunked since the majority of taxpayers would pay less under his policy. but, by all means, keep doing what has worked in the past - like deceptive ads and smear campaigns. Oh, and blaming the media. You conveniently forget that Obama has been in the public eye for more than a year since the campaigns began and was under scrutiny for everything from lapel pins to his pastor. now, it has been like four weeks, and it is Palin's turn. Of course the press is going to "vet" her. Especially an unknown entity.

In the story, I am most amused by a couple of things. She had a campaign manager for mayor of a town of less than 10,000 people? I don't know if any of you have lived in towns that small before (I have) and the job is often part-time and with little pay. The city manager is a professional that does most of the daily work and is just directed by the mayor and city council. The couple of small towns I've lived in (both even a little larger than Wasilla) the mayor was either a retired person or a business person doing it in addition to their full-time jobs. Secondly, to get a city vehicle? I cannot imagine explaining that to the taxpayers of a town that small.

Basically, this all sounds a lot like the way the current administration has dome its business so I can see why they liked her so much.

Go ahead, conservatives, rip me a new one. I'm sure we'll hear more about how unfair the media is to question your candidate and how they give Obama a free pass. Ad by the way, the per diem story didn't go away. It is still ridiculous to pull in a per diem allowance when you are at home.

Well I can tell you that in my experience, each time a Democrat has been elected president, my tax burden has gone up DRAMATICALLY. It went up under Carter, and it went WAY up under Clinton.
I'm not a big Bush fan, but can anyone tell me the last time a Democrat EVER gave tax dollars back to the people who ACTUALLY PAID THEM, and not the welfare bums?

Michael, you must be making lots of money! I am a teacher, and my taxes have gone up under Bush, and my salary has not kept up with inflation. I make 10 dollars a month more than I did last year, and just the cost of eggs eats that pitiful amount up. I don't know of anyone that has improved their lot since Bush took office, unless it's the big insurance companies, the rich doctors, or big business.

Its interesting that so many people ( killerb for example ) can't look at this election with any detachment and they're playing out a dream scenario in their heads, that X is an issue or that the media will do Y. They're trying to talk themselves out of the prospect of a tight race. The Republicans have been pretty somber since day One - they never expected to win, so all this Palin business looks like Hope to them. The left on the other hand have gone from a political high to dread, and its interesting to watch them self-destruct on the blogs. Its almost like watching Alec Baldwin in Team America start blathering about "corporate America" toward the end.

You almost have to feel sorry for Barack (I said 'almost')...He personally, hasn't said a whole lot. But his constituents, mostly the whacked out far left have made him look horrible. Gives new proof to the old saying "You are judged by the company you keep." I'm betting Obama retires in the evening saying to Michelle.."Ya know hon...I bet I could win this thing if it weren't for the stupidity of my supporters."

Wow do I love Sarah Palin and her fantastic list of appointed friends! She's so wonderful compared to Barack Obama and his long list of despicable associates, "church" friends and Obamaites.

I, one voice of over 18 million other Hillary supporters, will do whatever it takes to ensure that anyone OTHER THAN BARACK OBAMA is in the White House next year. If we can take 2 million of the 18 million away from Obama - it will be over for him!!! I think it already is based on what we are seeing in the polls.

God Bless Sarah Palin - we have hope to have a woman, a real American woman with her own mind, in the White House someday. Hillary couldn't do it but Sarah just might.

I agree Pat N. The GOP is enjoying an infusion of support if you look at the polls, but those people don't seem to be the angry ones motivated to come load the blogs. They've been very quiet the whole time, and I expect they'll quietly go vote in November. If I learned anything from Ron Paul, its that the Internet is not an accurate indicator of what happens on election day, and Yes, some supporters are unfortunately used to characterize the candidate. I think the bottom line is that many minds are set and none are being changed on the blogs. People are going to vote according to their convictions.

                                      Jennifer,
                                      Your post got me thinking...

I think it would be an interesting statistic to find out how many people that 'vent' on the blogs actually go vote. Or are they just angry isolationists that never leave the house? (OK...most probably aren't quite that extreme)

I'm not so sure minds have been made up. Our County Supervisor lives 3 doors down. He's a staunch Democrat, but not a liberal. He said he disliked BOTH candidates in the beginning but is now leaning more toward McCain for a couple of reasons. One of those reasons is that he doesn't want to be associated with the behaviour exhibited by the left in this election.

Why would anyone think that we have to feel sorry for Obama when he will be the next President of United States. Most of us now recognize what the Republicans are about: nothing but selfishness.
Sure, they promote right to life, and then make sure I have to pay for raising their children. How many staffers will be hired to take care of the Palen kids. Sure, they are all for war but most of them never went and never will be under fire. Their children will get Bush and Cheney like exceptions. Sure they will be bring God back into American life; you know the White Guy with the beard. The God of our understanding is ok as long as she approves.
No thank you. I didn't believe Obama could look so good a year ago or that McCain could look so bad. Well, I got a feeling the White House is in for a change.

None of the respected journalists have reported anything unfair to the "second coming". Explain to me this wise guy....how is it that it took 18 months for the story about Reverend Wright to make it to mainstream media and it only took two days for NBC to post a story about Palin and her church?

As for war or even serving, I have given up 11 years of my life so you can freely spew your delusional filth from your mouth....how many have you given.

My wife and I vote and I will vote for Obama just like a lot here who you say "vent" and probably will not vote. I will also bring a lot of the "venters" to the polls with me. I think there are too many people like you who try to make a bad name of people by calling them the "left" or "those liberals". Fact is those are just labels and not issues. When someone diagrees with something that comes out about Mccain or Palin the Repubs say "They are to the left" which is silly. All this labeling is just clouding the issues. The facts speak for themselves and stout Republicans will not be able to stop people from seeing the truth this time. People like you with your one liners telling us that we are better off under Bush will be a small voice after the election. So keep on blogging that somehow the media is to the "left" this time and putting labels on people because obviously that is all you can do. By the way polls have Obama leading but it will not matter because Obama and Biden will tear Mccain and Palin up in the debate. I mean is a couple of women on the "View" can tear his reasoning to pieces imagine a honed politician. I guess this makes me "left" because I disagree with you. That is why I left the Republicans because the stout ones just do the Rove politics and dilude the issues. What ever happened to the good Republican canidates? I mean is this the best the party could do?

Right, you mean like the mortgage brokerages, investment firms and banks they have bailed out for, what, not knowing how to do their jobs (that the CEOs earned multiple millions doing poorly and yet still have)? Welfare isn't welfare if it is corporate welfare? Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac are not two people getting food stamps - they are private corporations getting government bailouts.

So, if you support Palin only now that Hilary Clinton is not in the race, please explain why other than gender that would be true. Or, and I am innocently asking this, are you just saying you are a former Hilary supporter in the hopes other Hilary supporters will blindly follow you that far to the other side?

Yeah the administration would be much better run if it was packed with people disloyal to the President. Is that the lesson we're supposed to learn? How many employers actively hire saboteurs to their company, or refuse to fire people who argue with the boss? You guys act like Palin is doing something odd or improper when in fact ALL executives in business or politics try to surround themselves with people they can count on.

We need loyal people but we need them to be loyal to the constitution. We need people who can keep secrets but secrets like who our covert operators are; not about people who committed treason in revealing them. We need loyalty, but loyalty to the American people; not big business and special interests. We need people who are loyal to the American dream; a dream that doesn't mean you can hire your friends for jobs that are unqualified for, but a dream where merit and achievement come first.
This is loyalty the Republicans haven't delivered since Abraham Lincoln was shot in Ford's theatre.

Let's suppose just for a minute that your theory is right. We'll have to scrap the Bill of Rights to make this work...along with the Constitution...but hey, we'll do what we have to do to try and fit your logic.

                                                    1) Where are my stock options?
                                                    2) When do I get my annual review? If it's good, do I get promoted to a gov't post?
                                                    3) If Government is a Business, why didn't you vote for Steve Forbes? He's a successful business man.
                                                    4) If Obama cuts taxes (gives a raise) to 95% of the 'employees', won't that hurt the 'companys' bottom line?

Sorry killer b...if you want a country that's run like a business, try China or Russia. They would be happy to tell you what your job will be, how much you will make, how many kids (direct reports) you will have and they will be happy to manage your P&L for you.

Pat--just because government is a business doesn't mean that we are its employees. We are its shareholders, and the government is the board of directors. Where's your stock options? You are not an employee, so you don't get any. Where are your dividends? Look at your SSI statement. If you live to the current average life expectancy, your initial investment will be returned many times over. In fact, current statistics state that you get your investment plus interest in about three years. That was fine when SSI was established, as most men only made it a year or so past their retirement date. today it is closer to 15 for men and more for women. Will giving raises affect the bottom line? Of course. When was the last time yo got a raise? For those earning the federal minimum wage, it is nearly once in a decade. And the problem with the communist countries that were purely socialist is that they were not run like businesses. Or to the extent that they were, the profits were being drained off by corrupt officials and managers, a problem with which China struggles mightily to this day.

Hmmmm, I think that's the government. The bailout prompted by the Repugnants. Hahahaaha. No more calling us Socialists. You lose. Not only are your words ugly...but the picture you post is too.

Government is more than a business. It is a sacred pact between the people, the government and the divine. That is what all these MBA pres. fans don't understand.

Republicans are run by big business that think that the system is there to maximise their profits. Trickle down economics. Robber Baron economics. The sheep under them know only how to follow blindly. Parrot the party line.

What they don't understand is that this government has to protect and serve the welfare of the people. To protect our sacred rights. To allow us to reach our potential. To be the heroes of our lives.

We can either be cattle or heroes.

I think they need to accept the fact that Palin is what she claims to be, a reformer. And, doing things differently is a promise not a campaign slogan.

Do you want your government censoring what you can and cannot read, know only what they want you to know, as the Bush Administration has done! She is a radical christian conservative. This country is made up of more than just Christians so stop imposing all of these radical, anti-abortion, God help us build a pipeline beliefs on the rest of us Americans. Republicans claim they want less government, well why don't you look into all of the bills that GWBush has passed over the passed 8 years to impose his authority over the US Citizens and impede the our rights!!!! McCain and Palin and not more of the same.........they are worse!!!!

Still, Ms. Palin has many supporters. As a two-term mayor she paved roads and built an ice rink, and as governor she has pushed through higher taxes on the oil companies that dominate one-third of the state's economy. She stirs deep emotions. In Wasilla, many residents display unflagging affection, cheering "our Sarah" and hissing at her critics.

"She is bright and has unfailing political instincts," said Steve Haycox, a history professor at the University of Alaska. "She taps very directly into anxieties about the economic future."

"But," he added, "her governing style raises a lot of hard questions."

The liberals claiming to want change are smoking something. Sarah IS change. They'd love her if she had a 'D' after her name.

She hires her friends even if they are unqualified, she muscles people who disagree, she abuses power in office in serving personal interest, and goes after money like some old party boss handing out favors stolen from hard working tax payers.
She would have censored the Librarian but her advisors and lawyers prevailed by informing her she would would not get away with it. If you have to be at home that much of the time, don't take the job. Most corporate jobs would not allow you to work from home that much. I don't have the answer to this so - unlike others - I will not state it as fact. I don't know where to get the information but maybe someone else does. Please look at the Governor's from the other 49 states and compare how much time they work from a private residence in a city outside the Capitol to Palin's. Maybe this is common practice. I can only say it wasn't in Michigan when I was a reporter there, but I can't speak for the rest.

The secrecy is so high that it only took less than a month to find all this out? Funny , I think we are still trying to piece together Obama's relation to Ayers and to Resko. Give me a break! Can we say hatchet job, if anybody syas anything about Obama is sinful, but feel free to pile on everybody else.

How much more "crony-ism" should the American people have to withstand. We have just endured 7 1/2 years of leaders that would not listen or change their position even when wrong. They surrounded themselves with "friends" and stopped all questions of the administration by crying "anti-patriotism". I for one have had enough. Let's select a new type of leader.

And give up the Resko/Ayers garbage. Let's let Sarah explain her husbands membership in the ALASKA INDEPENDENCE PARTY for almost 10 years. (factcheck that one) He hasn't said he is "so proud" of his country, he belonged to a party that wants to secede from the US. "ALASKA FIRST, ALASKA ALWAYS". Explain that one.

The Republicans are schooled in telling lies....it's a qualification to be part of their Party. There's a lot more to Palin than has come out so far. The investigation of her corruption while in office and the theft of the Peoples tax money will indict her in the early part of October. Others loyal to her 'school buddies' are also guilty and will turn against their friend Palin to avoid felony convictions. This is the beginning of the end for Ms. Palin.

Hey, I hear that this one guy who was a friend of a guy that Obama once met at a party totally killed some people! Why won't the media report on that! It's because the media is a big 'ol Obama lovefest obviously.

When will the American people realize that if we need to know something about Sarah Palin, John McCain and his campaign staff will tell us! He's a straight talking maverick, remember? We all just need to shut up and stop asking questions that make them look bad.

Or there's the other problems Obama has with socializing with terrorists, taking money from those less fortunate, and being mentored by a racist.

The Germans were wooed into silence and compliance with Hitler's agenda. It was all for some higher good. When ever I see the people riding in the limos gets out and tell me, between bites of caviar, they are wanting to serve me I get my back to the wall and tighten my sphincter muscle. That is especially true when they add a "Praise the Lord" or "In Jesus' name ,Amen". It's not that I am against God, but I am reminded of Mathew, Chapter 6. The Pharisees made a good show too. Again, i looks as if nothing has changed.

"The Wasilla High School yearbook archive now doubles as a veritable directory of state government"? She's taken cronyism to appalling new depths. And the pressure she placed on the Wasilla library to ban some of its collection is deplorable! Seems she wants to take modern civilization and its attendant information sources and redo them to fit some 14th-century model of Her Majesty's own choosing. How about that year of home-based per diem? Guess that white "mayormobile" she bought herself with state funding got little use that year! Her laundry list of malfeasance is proof positive that she would be a nightmare of a vice president, perilously close to the presidency herself if McShame kicks the bucket.

There is supposed to be a separation of church and state in this country but the two are becoming alarmingly connected. The song "What's Love Got to do With It" keeps running in my head except the title becomes, "What's God Got to do With It." Mitt Romney would have been a strong leader because of his economic experience but people couldn't get past his religion. Obama was roaring along when suddenly his relationship with his minister became headlines. Hey! Maybe Hillary would have succeeded if she had made her religion more of a focus. McCain and Palin are bashing us over the head with God and Jesus.

It's time to take religion out of the equation of who will lead this country the best!

You don't seek enlightenment and think you submit and become "saved". This salvation gives the same endorphin rush as a member of the pack submitting to an alpha leader. It's the same principle that dog trainers use to make pets behave. They train them to see their owners as the alpha leader.

This is why salvation religion is so useful for tyrannies. It provides perfect obedience.

Why would anyone question her ability to make decisions when she has done it every day in her job as governor? Can't say the same for Crock O'Drama, the celebrity of inexperience and lack of judgment himself, the man who voted "PRESENT" over a hundred times on key issues instead of taking a stand.

Give me a break... We should be talking about Hillary at this point in the campaign, not dorky O'Drama.

Obviously, this is just conjecture, but I wonder if there is any other state in the union where a person could go straight from mayor of a town of less than 10,000 people to governor. Take that however you want, it is just a thought.

I consider myself strong and none, I repeat, NONE of my three girls were pregnant before marriage and guess what? I am a single parent! I progressed and got promoted in my job, still worked with my 4 kids on their homework and outside activities. All four went to college and are now responsible adults.

Also my mother had a handicap child in 1954 and she did not ABORT and she was not singled out as STRONG or SPECIAL but a mother with a handicap child.

It seems to me like the biased news media has gone off the deep end since Palin came on the scene. Where before they masked their lies a little bit, now they are in full-fledged mode. They lie constantly about McCain and Palin.

Why is it that not one person interviewed on camera had a bad thing to say about Palin?

How deep did these MSNBC idiots have to dig to find one disgruntled jealous sould to say these things? How much did they pay to get somebody to say this crap?

Sara has a 80+ approbal rating.

By the way....when will the biased news media go to Chicago and ask about Obama?

I am quite sure there are people there who would like to tell about Obama and his buddy REzko. Like maybe the people who had to live in the slums that REzko built with the money that Obama got him!

Palin got a pass for two weeks now it is time to meet the really Sarah Palin. I understand you don't like what you see, so you have to criticize the media for doing their job and result to name calling and character bashing. The truth hurts but once you face reality everything will be alright. Facing reality is the first step to admitting there is a problem. Come in from the dark. It is okay.

S.Heath: I have no doubt that the press is biased. For example, in the 1860 election, they portrayed Abe Lincoln as a rube and as a great hairy gorilla. But how does putting people on TV who support Palin constitute left leaning bias? Further, the NYT has generally taken rather conservative positions on its editorial pages (I mean where it puts its opinions up, not the opinions of its readership), and is accused of being the liberal media only when it criticises administration policies. For most of us, Palin is complete unknown. Under those circumstances, where she is running for the second most powerful office in the most powerful country in the world today, don't we, as voters, have the right to ask pointed questions of and about this candidate, instead of being subjected to the carefully managed nonsense speak of her handlers?

I think Palin's true character is being exposed: she is an arch-conservative, right wing fundamentalist christian, who would turn the clock back sixty years on civil liberties. She is the true dream girl of the once famous Moral Majority. She was appointed to protect the party, to find a source of unity in a party fractured by internal dissent at the lack of agreement with the ultraconservative bent of the leadership.

And what is most dangerous about her is that she just might indeed become President. If you think at all that any (even just one) decision of the current administration was ill-advised, based on false and misleading data supplied solely for political purpose, or the result of cronyism, corporate greed, and insider special advantage (e.g., the now infamous no-bid Iraq contracts that have cost US TAXPAYERS literally billions of dollars), then you must understand that a Palin administration will be just as bad if not even worse. I personally fear the consequences of a McCain/Palin imperial presidency.

They say all of these wonderful things about her and she repeats them. And you expect the media not to check into it? It has been what, four weeks? Of course they are going to check into her background. If they do a better job than your party, complain to them, not the media.

For the ones who keep the same lie that this is a LIBERAL MEDIA get your facts straight. Go research who owns these things and comes down to RUPERT MURDOCH as the largest owner of several tv stations, papers, magazines, etc but hey that is ok since he is a republican or large supporter.

But, but, what about George Sarros! He is a millionaire who supports democrats but guess what he does not own the press therefore keep the lie going about liberal when in truth is you the republicans who lie tell half truths and blind the people.

Remember anyone who said a word against George Bush was listed as TRAITORS, UNAMERICANS, UNCHRISTAINS (for God only spoke to repubs) and all the lies you people told. How is Iraq working for ya? Hey Krista have you been yet? Did you leave anything behind, your brain?

Now there are 4 large bailouts but according to repubs that is great and better than chocolate cake! But hey for people who have lost their homes, jobs, lives...well too bad for you since you are not a republican you don't deserve to live...but don't forget to have that baby! For life is precious as long as it is in the womb but once born...guess what DIE.

He has a lifetime of service to his country in Congress and no one even cares. How sad. Of course, he dresses conservatively, makes no waves, smiles a lot, talks nicely to everyone. The press must not find him front page newsworthy.

This woman is lying about the entire narrative of her campaign. Look up objective facts about the Bridge to Nowhere (how she supported it avidly until it was doomed by federal oversight), about how she came into Wasilla and the government with a heavy hand, begging for earmarks and firing off those who questioned her like sort of quasi-dictator. She ran her town and her state like an evangelical, intellectually sloppy tyrant.

Please, please, please read this article carefully, how it describes instead of using policy knowledge and balanced decision-making, she has run an adminstration based "on loyalty and secrecy." Sound familiar? Anything like, "Heck of a job, Brownie." Or the subtlety of "You're either with us or against us"?

Our country has paid too high of a price for being run by an intellectually incurious, right-wing evangelical with a disdain for science, for conflicting points of view, and for nuance in policy-making decisions. Please don't be fooled by the fact that the new George Bush comes with pretty hair, lovely children, a snowmobile, and a feisty sense of humor.

Friends of the present president have helped him ruin this country and it's going to take years to turn this economy around. The entire world is suffering from their stupidity.

We may not own this country if we keep selling out to foreign investors.

Osama figured it out a long time ago on how to destroy the USA. He probably paid some citizens to stuff the ballot box's.

I know very little about Biden and I hear next to nothing by way of bad remarks from the competition. Does that mean he's the good guy?

I feel we should elect a professional business man who can really run this country and that person could hire a pro on foreign affairs if that business man isn't qualified. How much more trouble can we get in than what's out there now?

What else would you expect them to say about a woman who threatens THEIR ONE Barack Obama, the candidate CNN is clearly in the tank for.

Obviously, you have got to be joking. You won't see CNN doing a documentary on Barack Obama - how truthful would IT be with all of his skeletons coming out of the woodwork?

Sarah Palin has credentials and it has the likes of Ted Turner running scared. Look what CNN did to Hillary - now they are trying to do it to Sarah Palin.

Until Palin, I was still unsure who I was voting for. Now I am behind Obama. She is not a person I would want as a friend, much less a governor, and certainly not as VP with the old guy. She's a weird, weird person, and I think anyone who is swayed by her words.....(well, you can't really say that since she has had no words), needs to really examine their reasons for supporting her. I've been around a long time, I remember Kennedy, and I have never been so scared of a person running for public office as I am Sarah Palin. Republicans have complained about some comparing Obama to the Messiah, the difference is....Obama doesn't consider himself to be anything but a human who cares, whereas Palin clearly believes she is the second coming. Just watch her. "They" are grooming her to be "their" puppet, just like McCain. Why did anyone in the Republican party think he'd make a good president? Makes you wonder just who is really in control. There is something really scary going on in the Republican party.

And now CNN is also biased? Wow. By the way, I don't think Ted Turner even owns CNN anymore, but I could be wrong. Scientists can't agree on global warming? Which ones? Even GW Bush admitted it is happening.

I think Palin having an 80% approval rating after less than two years is great. However, how does that in any way diminish the allegations she has consistently misused her elected offices, played heavy-handed politics (exactly like the Justice Dept. firings), and has completely misrepresented the facts about her being against earmarks while taking more per capita than any other state?

The biggest problem with this entire scenario is it keeps the public talking about her instead of comparing McCain and Obama's policies and campaign tactics.

She hires cronies who aren't qualified for the positions--Bush w/ "heckuva job" Brownie comes to mind there. She's clearly hiding things from the public. I believe that Joe Biden will clean her clock in their debate in October, and her true lack of national stature will be revealed to all the swooning Republicans who think having her on the ticket is enough to beat the smarter team of Obama/Biden. She's also incompetent, as her interview w/ Charlie Gibson showed. If she doesn't have a TelePrompTer, she's lost and clueless. She doesn't know how to answer a question; she just keeps parroting what she's been coached to say, whether it even approaches the question or not.

This woman is not qualified to be VP. She's not familiar--even shallowly--with national or international affairs; she, like McCain, has no comment on our floundering economy and (once again) soaring energy prices (of course, her solution is just drill, drill, drill in ANWR for the 3 months' of oil under the ground there. Yeah, that'll help). Heck, even I know what the Bush Doctrine is, and I've been a Bush nonbeliever since the first day! Wake up, everyone who's under her spell, and smell the---whatever it is she's emitting. She's not the one!

How can we forget what we have been through, the lies we have been fed, the rights we have lost, ours sons and daughters dead in an unjust war, our citizens left on their roofs for a week waiting for rescue by a absent government agency created by GWB. All the while we listened to propaganda spoon fed to us by the sheepish press who were too frightened to speak the truth.

Please do not let the treats and abuse of the real "haters" silence the truth we deserve to know about who is running for the second highest position in our land. This woman makes Cheney look straight forward.

I want to know every little detail there is to know about all four of the candidates good or bad. I want to know where they stand on the issues and I truly believe that church and politics DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT belong together. So enough about the religious aspect and more on the issues. America is in bad shape and if the wrong person gets into office and from what I'm seeing, the Republican party hasn't done ANYTHING for the middle class we are doomed. So please stop looking at this with your heart and start using your head and what affects you and yours most of all. As for the interview with Charles Gibson, what questions would you have liked him ask her?

Lets not forget that if we quit, we'll be attacked again by the terrorists who hated us on 9-11 and that still hate us now. I'm dumbfounded by people like you, people who think if we surrender, things will just go away. I don't like that our soldiers are being killed. Unfortunately, however, it's a fact of life. Now, it is not a matter of how to "win" that war; it is how to get out of there leaving the least amount of damage. Obviously, Saddam was a tyrant, but he had nothing to do with 9/11 and any implication that our invasion of Iraq somehow made us safer is ludicrous and irresponsible. We have lost too many lives and too many tax dollars to not own up to that fact. We absolutely owe it to those who died there to be honest about that.

We sent some people from our country ( the troops ) into an area much closer to the terrorists and easier for them to reach for their attacks. That's it. Deterrence or disruption of Muslim extremism is not a factor. It's just more convenient to use IED's to kill Americans in Iraq than to drive an explosive U-Haul into the Statue of Liberty. This is the only way the President's claims of our safety at home have any truth.

Gulf War II was built on lies and willful distortion of facts, from what the Bush regime told us to Colin Powell's statements to the UNSC. The only tie to Al Quaeda developed after we invaded and they thought if they could cause problems for us they'd gain favor in the power vacuum we created there after Hussein was ousted.

This woman is so ambitious and so duplicitous that she will stop at nothing until her goal of achieving the presidency has been accomplished. Haven't we learned anything from the Bush presidency about surrounding oneself only with close friends who isolate and contribute to a bunker mentality? About eliminating perceived enemies and creating false stories? She is a smarter, more conniving George Bush, or perhaps the female version of Dick Cheney. John McCain will have to watch his back if we should be so unlucky that he is elected.

People like this add nothing to the debate. I think its dishonest that so many partisans come to blogs and try to float a partisan question in a non-partisan way, feigning real concern.

The woman is a moron. Just because she is a woman doesn't make her someone I would vote for, give us a break...... please. She is anti-everything the Democratic party stands for. I wouldn't vote for her for any reason, the least of all is because she is a woman. Now I understand why the Republicans are such idiots, they think that we all think like they do. Nothing could be further from the truth. I guess if Obama was a member of the Republican party, you'd vote for him, too? Hopefully people nowadays don't vote based on color or gender or religious belief but on the candidate that will do the best for this country....and that's not McCain and Palin.

Why would that even enter your thought process? Her belief system is the opposite of the basic Democratic platform. Her views are slightly more right wing than McCain's current views, and way further right than his views of a few short years ago.

Singing her praises? They would be in out-and-out revolt.

Unlike your Mr. "I am committed to Public Finance, before he was against Public Finance." We stay committed! We may lose but you are going to know that we fought.

And, objectively speaking, the Obama campaign itself (I am not talking about the media or anything like that) has run a way more honorable campaign than has John McCain -- and coming from someone who respected John McCain back in 2000, I am saddened.

                                                                                                      • 3 votes

There are millions of new voters that are not accounted for: voters registered by the Obama campaign. Here is a news flash; there are not many rew Republicans. Quite a few have left the party or perhaps it would be better said< "The Party left them".

There will be nashing of teeth come Nov. I doubt it will be Democrats this time.

You say Obama was leading by 20 a few weeks ago and is now behind. So, it would seem obvious, that either the polls are not overly accurate or that the same swing can happen back the other way. We are far more than a few weeks from the election so I am keeping my faith in the American people's willingness to look at all of the information that comes from now until November - including watching the debates.

Just as we are counting upon no major blunders from our candidates, you are counting on none from yours. You also have to hope the Bush doesn't do anything horrible in that time that causes more undecided voters, or even Republican voters, to say they don't care who is running, they will not risk another four years with a Republican at the helm.

Selma got me born...NOT EXACTLY: your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965.
(Google 'Obama Selma' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.) 2.) My Father Was A Goat Herder . . NOT EXACTLY: he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government. 3.) My Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter . . . NOT EXACTLY: he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had. 4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom . . . NOT EXACTLY: your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya. It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check out the following link for verification of that and for more. Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia Muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers burned Christians' homes as well as men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took refuge. Obama supported his cousin before the election process here started. (Google 'Obama and Odinga') 5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian . . .
NOT EXACTLY: she does her daily Salat prayers at 5 AM according to her own interviews. Christianity would not have supported her being one of 14 wives to 1 man. 6.) My Name is African Swahili . . .
NOT EXACTLY: your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came) means 'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.
Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side, and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side.
While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya, his father's family were mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate states he's Arab, not African Negro). From....and for more....go to..... 7.) I Never Practiced Islam . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years -- until you changed the year before running for public office.
4-3-08 Article 'Obama was 'quite religious in Islam'' 8.) My School In Indonesia Was Christian . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book). February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the New York Times a year ago: 'Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as 'one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.' This is just one example of what Pamela is talking about when she says 'Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.' 9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian . . .
NOT EXACTLY: not one former teacher says you could speak the language. 10.) Because I lived In Indonesia, I have more foreign experience . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were there from the ages of 6 to 10, and could not speak the language. 11.) I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs . . .
NOT EXACTLY: except for Africa and the Middle East, you have never been anywhere else on the planet and have NO experience with our closest allies. 12.) I Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic Confusion . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were quite content in high school to be Barry Obama, no mention of Kenya and no mention of struggle to identify. Your classmates said you were just fine. 13.) An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office . . .
NOT EXACTLY: Ebony has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist. 14.) A Life Magazine Article Changed My Outlook On Life . NOT EXACTLY: Life has yet to find the article you mention in your book. NOT EXACTLY: here you are, despite saying live on TV that you would not have enough experience by then -- and you are all about 'having experience first '. 16.) NOT EXACTLY: common for YOU, but not many others have 130 NO VOTES. 17.) I Was A Professor Of Law . . .
NOT EXACTLY: you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE. 18.) I Was A Constitutional Lawyer . . .

I Have Released My State Records . .
NOT EXACTLY: as of March, 2008, state bills you sponsored or voted for have yet to be released, including all the special interests pork hidden within. 23.) Already, big defense firms have lined their pockets with lucrative contracts for infrastructure projects and security in Iraq. Another group that has profited handsomely from the Iraq war is the crop of Washington lobbyist insiders who represent the defense contractors and have made millions securing contracts for their clients. McCain has recruited these lobbyists, who wholeheartedly support continuing a war that has earned them so much money, to run his campaign. And the defense firms and their executives know who their friends are. Realizing a McCain presidency will continue the war that has made them rich, the defense contractors have given hundreds of thousands of dollars to McCain to bolster his bid for the White House. Having been in Washington for 25 years, McCain knows how to return a favor. McCain repaid his defense contractor pals by voting against efforts in Congress to investigate defense contractor waste, fraud and abuse

This is my own observation so dismiss it if you wish. The completely ridiculous information that has been debunked by sites like factcheck.org are getting cut and pasted on every thread by different conservatives. The exact same stuff. Not just word for word, punctuation, bold letters, everything.

The liberals will also cut and paste the same thing on these threads, but it is usually something like the actual wording from the so-called sex-ed bill that is refuting another post. Not these unsubstantiated smears. However, to be fair, now and then there will be one of those types showing up against McCain or Palin, but not only is it much, much more rare, it is often from the same exact poster every time.

                                                                                                                    Just an observation.

You know what. I have an idea. Since this thing is a landslide for McCain, I don't even think you need to vote. Why waste your time? Just sit back and maybe enjoy a tasty beverage on election day. Watch the great drama unfold without ever leaving your house. Maybe even go out of the country for a while on vacation.

I mean these polls are *always* right. This game is indeed over. Congratulations!

In fact why hasn't there already been a debate? Oh I know why! Because Obuma can't debate without the teleprompter! He's lost without his prepared speech! He is going to hu, hum, and ah through the debate and Mccain is going to kick butt!

I saw how she did on her interview, and she sucked. So, I can imagine her telling Biden that she can see Russia from Her home land Alaska, and traveled to Canada. YES, that is comforting. Just a minute away from the red button, because she think that she can see Russia from Alaska.

YOU people are a joke! WHEN you know that you are wrong, you have to much pride to admit that she is a dimwit, and john is too old! WE as women have came along way to be turned back a 100 years! Sarah, want to teach creationism in school, instead of math and science. WE don't want our daughters forced in a situation that they don't have the option to make their choice, that is how she raise her kids, but NOT MIND! freedom of choice. SHE SAID NO to stem cell research, WHY? when she have a kid that have down syndrome? It makes no sense. I know that it is families out there, that is hoping for stem cell research, they want to save their children lives. I don't know about you Republicans, I don't want to go to war. If you want to go to war, sign up. But we are losing too many lives overseas. WE barely have enough men to fight! WAKE UP

After all, didn't the Democrats and Republicans have a debate seemingly every week during the primaries? I watched about four of each and didn't notice a single teleprompter.

NYT along with all the other mainstream media is so excited about the possibility of an Obama presidency they are unable to fathom that a large segment of the voting public is not in agreement. When November finally gets here and this whole mess is over we will hear about how McCain has stolen the election.

There hasn't been a poll that includes them. It is also a very important fact that those who are technologically savvy and users of modern communication and educational devices will vote for the truth and can see that lies aren't going to carry a very sick party's representatives to succeed. You conservatives are only posting to hear yourselves spout garbage.

They don't get phone numbers from telephone books. they get it from voter registration and they said they call the house phone if one is listed. If not they call the cell phone.

That is just a fantasy that some Obama supporter made up back when Obama was behind Hillary in the polls! The Obama people like to lie -- both to themselves and to others.

"Interviews show that Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records. While Ms. Palin took office promising a more open government, her administration has battled to keep information secret. Her inner circle discussed the benefit of using private e-mail addresses. An assistant told her it appeared that such e-mail messages sent to a private address on a "personal device" like a Blackberry "would be confidential and not subject to subpoena."

"The administration's e-mail correspondence reveals a siege-like atmosphere. Top aides keep score, demean enemies and gloat over successes. Even some who helped engineer her rise have felt her wrath."

McCain and Palin will be nothing but another Bush and Cheney. These are the people you want to lead America? McCain and Palin have shown that they are willing to lie and deceive to gain office. Disgusting. Pure dirty Republican politics.

Come on....I'm tired of religion. Ive asked so many church-goers a very simple question that they all have ZERO answer to....what went on prior to Christ? If the religion is based on that "man", and he lived and died approximately 200 years ago, there were humans here LONG before that. So what of all those before? And that ends the discussion.

Hey, SP fans, just found this by googling John Bitney.

                                                                                                                                        Shadow Governor?

In the aftermath of the Walt Monegan firing, one question keeps surfacing over and over again; why does the governor's husband, Todd Palin appear to hold so much power?

After all, Nancy Murkowski or Susan Knowles were never accused of pressuring a commissioner or inappropriately sitting in on meetings that should have been private.

The stories started last year when Representative Ralph Samuels told me about going into a meeting, he thought would be private, with Governor Sarah Palin. Much to his surprise, Todd Palin was there and proceeded to sit through the entire meeting.

Other lawmakers have shared similar stories and were shocked at how inappropriate Todd's presence was at meetings with the governor. Yesterday on the Dan Fagan Show, Representative Jay Ramras mentioned that Todd was working lawmakers offices during the ACES debate.

But more importantly, Todd's fingerprints on trying to impact personnel decisions appear to go beyond the current scandal revolving around State Trooper Mike Wooten.

Consider the story of one of Governor Palin's former trusted advisors, John Bitney.

Bitney grew up with the governor, often telling the story of being in the same band class. He served as her Issues Coordinator during her successful gubernatorial campaign in 2006, spokesman for her transition team after the election and on December 1, 2006 he was named her Legislative Liaison.

Bitney was respected as a hard worker by people who knew him and worked with him. In six months, Bitney guided the governor's policies through the legislature, including her hallmark legislation; AGIA.

But John Bitney made the fatal employment mistake; he got on the bad side of Todd Palin.

In June of 2007, it became known that Bitney was dating the soon to be ex-wife of Todd Palin's good friend. Palin reportedly began demanding that Bitney be fired.

After a short time, Bitney realized that he couldn't remain in the governor's office due to the constant pressure and he worked out a deal with Chief of Staff Mike Tibbles to take a transfer to another department.

On July 3, Bitney was in the process of driving his vehicle back to Juneau when he couldn't get his state issued Blackberry to work. When he arrived in Tok he called his office and was told that his Blackberry had been turned off and that his name had been removed from the state employee directory.

His call was then transferred into Tibbles who told him the proposal they talked about was a no deal and the governor ordered him fired immediately. John Bitney was never given a reason why he was fired and never given a chance to make a graceful exit.

However reading the press statements from the Palin administration, you'd think otherwise.

According to the APRN on July 9, 2007, Governor Palin's spokeswomen Sharon Leighow said Bitney left for "personal reasons" and the departure was "amicable."

The Associated Press reported on July 10, 2007, "A spokeswoman for the governor says Bitney and Palin mutually agreed he would leave his post for personal reasons."

Bitney didn't leave his post, he was unfairly and unceremoniously fired and even after serving as a loyal employee was never given an answer as to why he was dismissed by the governor.

According to Bitney, "Todd's words have so much weight".

                                                                                                                                        Confidential Emails

The most alarming indication of Todd Palin's reach into state government came just yesterday.

Last month, a group of Alaskans filed a freedom of information act for emails sent from the computers of both Frank Bailey and Ivey Frye. Along with several boxes of documents, they received a cover letter along with 78 pages detailing the emails that were not released due to "Deliberative Process and Executive Privilege". (Privilege log attached)

Page 1 of the list showed seven emails from both Governor Sarah Palin and Lt. Governor Sean Parnell within a three hour time frame on Feburary 1, 2008 that were described as "Email re Andrew Halcro".

The serious concern about these emails is that they were prohibited from being released to the public due to executive privilege, even though Todd Palin was copied on these same emails.

Todd Palin is not a member of the executive branch, nor is he even a government employee. Todd Palin is a member of the general public.

So why in the world is Todd Palin getting copied on emails that his wife's administration is classifying as confidential?

Furthermore there is something incredibly suspicious about these emails.

The first email was sent on Feburary 1 at 7:41am from Lt. Governor Sean Parnell to Governor Sarah Palin. Obviously something was burning Parnell to make him fire off an email to the governor so early in the morning about Andrew Halcro. This in turn set off a flurry of email activity that spanned the next three hours and encompassed five different people including Todd Palin.

Judging from the blogs I posted on January 31, the night before, this very well could be about the 2004 TransCanada proposal that Parnell help negotiate when he was an attorney in the oil & gas division that has been kept sealed ever since. TransCanada has insisted to this day that it remain confidential.

These emails should be released to the public...after all Todd Palin has no standing to claim executive privilege. By including him in the email loop, the Palin administration has arguably breached any claim of executive privilege.

After all, government can't pick and choose what private citizens get to see confidential material, that is exactly why freedom of information laws exist.

The attached print out clearly shows that something drove this administration into overdrive, hence the seven emails in under three hours. Since the executive privilege has been breached by sending them to Todd Palin, this administration should release those emails so all Alaskans can see them.

This is yet another example of why we need to get to the facts about how power is being used in the governor's office.

(To see the complete email Privilege Log detailing the flow of emails click attachment)

Of course Todd would be included in her daily life and job...he is the head of his household and of Sarah. The power behind the throne is obviously Todd. She appears to be the window-dressing and he may well be making all of the decisions. What other job does he have, or did he give it up to back her?...or run things behind her false front?!!!

                                                                                                                                        McCain aka (Pinocchio)

McCain claimed that Obama's health care plan would "force small businesses to cut jobs" and would put "a bureaucrat ... between you and your doctor." In fact, the plan exempts small businesses, and those who have insurance now could keep the coverage they have.

McCain attacked Obama for voting for "corporate welfare" for oil companies. In fact, the bill Obama voted for raised taxes on oil companies by $300 million over 11 years while providing $5.8 billion in subsidies for renewable energy, energy efficiency and alternative fuels.

McCain said oil imports send "$700 billion a year to countries that don't like us very much." But the U.S. is on track to import a total of only $536 billion worth of oil at current prices, and close to a third of that comes from Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

He promised to increase use of "wind, tide [and] solar" energy, though his actual energy plan contains no new money for renewable energy. He has said elsewhere that renewable sources won't produce as much as people think.

He called for "reducing government spending and getting rid of failed programs," but as in the past failed to cite a single program that he would eliminate or reduce.

He said Obama would "close" markets to trade. In fact, Obama, though he once said he wanted to "renegotiate" the North American Free Trade Agreement, now says he simply wants to try to strengthen environmental and labor provisions in it.

Both Obama and Hillary favored this model over what we have now. The insurance you have now will not exist there would be a bureaucrat between you and your doctor.
                                                                                                                                        Paragraph two.

If you raise taxes on the oil companies - do you really think they'll take the hit? Any expenses will be picked up by you.
It's a great way to take more money out of your pocket and think it's evil oil. Neglected in the report of the Big Earnings of the oil companies is that for ever dollar made they pade a little over 3 dollars in taxes. (Those profits are from "world sales" not at the gas station alone). The oil companies made about 8 cents per gallon - the Federal Govt. about 24 cents per gallon. The ROI was low for such a large outfit.

                                                                                                                                        Paragraph 3.

                                                                                                                                        Paragraph 4.
Not sure - can't say right or wrong here... maybe allowing it to happen is all that's needed. Edison and his projects weren't funded, nor Wright brothers, and many of the great investors.
                                                                                                                                        Paragraph 5.
Some failed programs just need new leadership. We were loosing in Iraq... then Petraus stepped in... soon Iraq will belong to the citizens.
                                                                                                                                        Paragraph 6.
Obama said three things here... One to the audience he was addressing in a depressed state. Then, in a whisper to someone he said he would touch it. Then he said what you quoted, the problem is Canada would love it to be re-opned, the y want to renegotiate the energy they are selling us.

Can you trust either? Maybe - maybe not... Bill Clinton in his first run (and won because of Ross Perot as third party) Promised the middle class a big tax cut. He won, got into office not only did he not give a tax cut - but in increase. Why would I trust McCain over Obama ? Obama has more than two positions on almost every issue. Obama is a Chicago politician. with them you sleep with one eye open and the finger on the trigger.

I guess you haven't read that part in the constitution where the VP becomes the president if something should happen to the old geezer president, say like a reoccurrance of melanoma. The acturial tables say he has a one in three chance of dying in his first term.
Well, "Get a clue Guy", she's not up to replacing him and I don't think she is a real leader. She is more like a "cheer leader". I don't mean that in a sexist way. I just don't think she'll stick her neck out in real way for the rest of us. She'll sit back while the rest of us do it and then say "Look what I did".

If creating green energy was so easy don't you think the private sector would had jumped on it?. The farming subsidies really helped the people. Food prices in the poorest countries increased dramatically because farmers planted corn and wheat not for human use but for "fuel. It had triggered massive protest because of hunger, but that is OK.

The acceptance of the message or lack thereof is not the evangelicals responsibility- they believe that part is "above their pay grade"- isn't that how a dem would say it? That is all that is required to be considered an evangelical. If a repub says otherwise, they are wrong. Based on a Princeton studay, over 70% of the country will state that they are member of a Christian denomination that is considered to be evangelical.

Some have added the following to the definition: belief in a personal relationshop with God, belief that you can be saved from you sins through the death and resurrection, the belief that the bible is the truth.

Hired all her buddies, made 230 millions dollars of earmarked(bridge to nowhere) money disappear, and fired people who didn't serve her will. She's gonna make Chaney look like a boy scout! I can't wait until she releases her tax returns. When do you think that will be? Nov. 5th?

The more McCain whines about the media being mean to him and Palin, for simply reporting the facts about the serious error in judgment he made in picking this nutjob to possibly be the president of the United States of America, the more the media finds and reports. The latest thing I read is that Cindy is all up in arms because The View was mean to poor little Johny. Grow a pair Johnny, if you can't take the heat from the gals on The View you have no business in the White House!
