An Obama leak! Secretary of State Hillary Clinton?

BREAKING TONIGHT:

As Team Obama considers picks for Secretary of State in an Obama administration, there have been whispers of familiar Democratic names like Kerry and Richardson...but here's one more to add to the list...

Clinton.

That's right, add "Secretary of State" to the list of titles that Barack Obama could bestow on Hillary.

Tonight, NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports that two Obama advisers have confirmed that Hillary Clinton is being considered to fill this important position in Obama's cabinet. (Of course, we've been through this many times with Barack and Hillary: VP, Supreme Court, etc.)

What a leak, from a seemingly leak-proof Obama camp.

What do you think? Would it be a good pick? What would those cabinet meetings be like?

Will Barack and Hillary ever end up together?

All this and more on the next episode of "As the White House Turns"...

Discuss.

Ha. I was thinking of having that be the pic for this article. I declined, but for comedy's sake, I'm glad you didn't.

I love it!

And I think Clinton would be an excellent choice.

Thanks for the article.

Andrea Mitchell, who broke the story, just said on MSNBC that this leak came from two sources she's known for a long time, and that this did not seem like a "trial balloon" (where the transition team would be floating a name to see what the public reation would be).

Mitchell also remarked that reporters have had a difficult time "divining" what this near leak-proof transition team is doing and thinking.

It might not seem like a trial balloon.  But that doesn't mean it isn't one.

How would something "seem like a trial balloon"? I wouldn't think we'd be able to tell the difference, and that would be... the point.

It could be a good idea. With Hillary out of the Senate, there will be one less "Super Lightening Rod" for the Republicans to polarize against.

Then Hillary would be the first to talk to US foes before preconditions.

Personally, I don't think it would be a very good idea. I don't think she would be able to get through the Senate confirmations, first of all.

Now Bill Richardson would be a good choice. He has the experience as an Ambassador.

Curious why you think she couldn't get through the Senate confirmation?  ('Tho I do like Gov. Richardson myself!)

Hipstorian, I couldn't tell you exactly. It would probably depend on the make up of the Senate. From everything that you hear and read, it seems people either love her or hate her. There seems to be very little in between.

Now that I think about it, it's going to be more then a simple majority in the Dems favor, so maybe she would be confirmed.

This is all probably a red herring to throw people off the path of who is really going to be offered the job. A bit of distraction so the transition team can talk to people without the glare of the media.

The Secretary of State job usually lasts one term or less and she could probably keep her Senate seat for many years.

I don't see her wanting it.

I want Hillary on the supreme court.

A life time appointment and it would remove Obama's biggest competitor in 2012
